I started watching the indies, and mostly Ring of Honor around 2006. Three guys really stuck out to me. El Generico, Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black. I've now seen Daniel Bryan leave WrestleMania XXX as World Champion and Seth Rollins do the same one year later. How incredible is that? If Sami Zayn could somehow do it next year, I may have a heart attack. In all seriousness though, anyone else just love seeing these guys succeed? For years we always heard that those "indy" guys could never make it on the grand stage and things like that from certain people. Then they go out and prove them wrong because they are amazing performers.
In the last year I've seen Bryan win at WM 30, Seth last night, Sami Zayn win the NXT Title in a feel good moment at R-Evolution and Kevin Owens win that same title two months later. We've also seen Adrian Neville have an excellent title reign, Finn Balor wow people and Hideo Itami at WrestleFREAKINGMania. What a time to be a fan.

It doesn't matter that they're "indy darlings"...they clearly have talent and WWE sees that thankfully.

I don't care if someone is from the indies or not, I care if they're talented.

I started watching the Indys around the same time as you, and I got to say it's been a hell of a time to be a fan. Tyler Black, Tyler Freaking Black just had a Wrestlemania moment and is the WWE World Heavyweight champion. Incredible. Unfortunately I don't see Sami getting hot shouted to the title and I kind of hope he doesn't. But he'll get there one day

Talent is talent regardless of how they got started. The cream always rises to the top.

Zayn is one of those guys who will have to fall just as often as he wins. He oozes underdog and the fans cling to that. That's his appeal. He will easily be one of the most popular guys around, but him losing is just as important as him winning. I just hope people here understand that, and don't start complaining every time he loses.

Last decade was pretty insane in terms of indy talent being churned out. Thankfully someone in WWE seems to realise that these guys are actually legit.

Very few will understand, and that's a huge problem. It's like if their guy doesn't go undefeated and win the title he's being "burried" it's idiotic

But to some this is a cardinal sin.......I have NEVER understood the poison on here from some members about "guys crying about their Indy darlings" then the same members go beserk about people complaining about Cena or RR. LUDICROUS double standard......

I wouldn't say Daniel Bryan or Seth Rollins are "Indy Darlings" at all now.... for they are WWE Superstars.
They don't wrestle the ROH style of match anymore, they wrestle the WWE style of match. They are perfect at what they do, and that is why they made it to the top. I am sure having an Indy following helped - no doubt about that - but the other 50% of the WWE audience who didn't know who Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black were got Daniel and Seth to the top by their WWE skills.

I've been watching the indys since late 2011, and to see guys like Generico, Steen, Devitt, KENTA, and many more evolve and grow into the characters and positions they're in today has been a lot of fun.

I got in to ROH at the end of 2008, so I was hooked after watching Claudio, Black, Hero, Generico, Steen, etc. Just imagaine if Hero hadn't been released. I can't wait for Owens to get called up.
