I think I met a guy who made these figures at Memorabilia in the UK a few years ago. He and his son made some R&B prototype figures based on the mirrored ad. What neither of them realised was that the picture had been flipped so that the action was shown the wrong way round. The painted figures were fantastic and I felt really bad when I pointed out their mistake.

Are people really taking this seriously?
The person who concocted those clearly thought the Toys R Us ad was how the figures were supposed to look. The whole image was reversed which is what makes this comical.
The Honky Tonk Man in the video has all of the rivets in his outfit yet the Valentine has no detail except the obvious music notes - common with the Valentine customs you see online. If this was ready to go into production like the seller speculates, then you'd assume the figure had the correct detailing.

He does raise some greet points though. Why does a knock off honky actually exist? And it is clearly different from the original

If someone wanted to make a fake Greg, a fake Honky to go along with it help legitimize it to some folks. That's just the first thing that came to mind for me, but I really have no feelings on the issue.

Wow. Imagine they are real prototypes. The question is - is it worth putting up for auction before he knows for sure?

so if they were real prototypes why would 4 of them end up in a 2nd hand shop? i am certainly not convinced. the 2 painted ones are customs and the other 2 look like they are cast resin parts made separately (which now days can be done at home with the right materials) and thats why they are not assembled. (in my opinion of course)

Has anyone seen that Countdown episode on the network about the top 10 infamous IC champs? Ryder says something to the effect of "You wanna know what I think about Greg Valentine? I bid 12 thousand bucks for his figure on eBay and lost!"

Ridiculous claims, ridiculous items. A concocted fraud. As you have some of the best Hasbro/Galoob items in the UK, I kinda trust your opinion Ryan But tell me why you are so convinced??

If you've ever seen authentic prototype items in person you wouldn't even need to debate. A very amateur listing and the whole 'mirror image' issue he tries to discuss confirms as much. The composition, the materials, the detail, the quality, the provenance... It's akin to the countless fake moon belly Kamala's that surface. Once the real unreleased Greg Valentine proto surfaced it was inevitable someone would do this at some point.

I've just watched this again and .... It's utter crap! I maybe reading in to it to much, but if he done so much research on them after buying them a couple of hours before it doesn't add up!
He would have been better of selling the parts as a proto and seeing what he got, but adding the painted set and claiming he has loads it's all bull! He made them himself they are NOT genuine and I hope he sees this!
I've been collecting HASBROS for 22 years and this whole greg Valentine thing appearing out of the blue 20 years on I think is also unrealistic. That's why I'm not interested in any of these prototypes etc as I'm sorry to say they are probably fake!
