Do you think the reaction would've been any different on Sunday, it seemed in August/September everyone was still a fan of his then he needed to take time off to get his surgery and pretty much came back and told everyone he was going to win the Royal Rumble, which ended up happening.
But would the reaction have been different if WWE had more time to build him up in those 3/4 months that he was gone, rather than a throw away angle with the Big Show to kill time until the Rumble

No. The boos generally stemmed from Roman being a guy picked by the machine. He was, at one time an internet darling until that fact became known.

I don't think it would have made a difference

The only difference he would have already feuded with Show.
It would also just be Kane in Show's current spot.

I think it could have made a difference. My problem with Reigns in the spot is because there was no build up to it, it just happened. Those months off could have been used to build him up, making his new main event status more believable. Who knows what would have happened?

I liked the slow build he was getting. Then he comes back and is shoved down our throats and is suddenly a huge deal. That's what put me off.

I remember being really happy when Roman left for surgery because it gave Ambrose an opourtunity to shine.
When the Shield broke up it became clear pretty quickly that Roman worked better as the heavy for the group. Without the other 2 guys it was obvious he only had 3 moves and 1 catch phrase, believe that!!!
Just kidding. I'm happy for Roman. If he hadn't left maybe he'd be more over now and the Network would have 2 million subscribers.
I guess I really don't know. All I have is my own opinion!!!

Because I remember people loving The Shield but 100% of the reason was because it was a vehicle to get Rollins and Ambrose TV time. I do not remember a time when Reigns was a general consensus top 5 or 10 favorite of the majority.

Or I just generally don't really care about internet trends. I must have stopped paying attention during that time when Reigns was an internet darling

Do you think the reaction would've been any different on Sunday? Absolutely. The problem is that Vince wants to keep booking like neither Bryan or Reigns were injured. It's like tearing out the middle of novel. The ending makes no sense without the character development and buildup that was supposed to happen in the middle. If Bryan had the run he was supposed to have had, and Reigns had those extra months to grow and develop that he was supposed to have had, Reigns winning the Rumble would have seemed like a natural progression instead of pulling the plug on Bryan and forcing Reigns on the fans.

I think the real question should be: "if Bryan never took time off with a neck injury?" He probably would've had a nice little title run while Roman patiently waits his turn and gets a proper build.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's entirely plausible that Reigns would have improved enough to be an acceptable choice to headline WrestleMania, but at the same time, he could have been even more loathed by some fans. If Reigns had not been injured, he would have been the one to go against Seth Rollins at Hell in a Cell. Not Dean Ambrose. He also would have been the one to win at Survivor Series for Team Cena. Not Dolph Ziggler.

No. If anything, getting hurt helped him.

It would not have been as bad I think. As some have said, people were upset that he's handpicked by the machine and not someone the crowd organically liked. Because that would be bad wouldn't it?
However, a lot of the fans, like myself, whose biggest issue is that he's not ready, might have a different tune. He would have had the NOC match with Seth Rollins, probably a singles match at Hell in a Cell and maybe been part of the Team Cena match before another singles match TLC. Granted that's still not a lot for someone to main event WrestleMania, but it is miles better than him having just ONE decent Pay-Per-View match under his belt. Working with the likes of Seth Rollins, John Cena and Dolph Ziggler, who all know what they're doing in the ring, could have greatly benefit him.

I can only speak from my personal perspective, and I can tell you with certainty that I would likely have been far more on board with Roman's win had he not been hurt for nearly four months.
In fact, when Reigns was touted as the potential Rumble winner last summer, I was all for it. It's when he got hurt that my tune changed, because he desperately needed that time to improve, and I thought WWE would feel the same way.
Look at it this way - we've really only had about 4 months of "getting to know" Roman Reigns post-Shield, whereas we've had around 7 months with Rollins and Ambrose. Look at how much those two guys have improved during that time. It's only fair to assume that Roman could have made similar improvements. Granted, he was nowhere near operating at Seth and Dean's level when the Shield split, but I'm confident he'd have been in a more conducive place than he is now. At the very least, a place where it wouldn't feel rushed betting the farm on him.

If it was still the Roman Reigns from The Shield who acted like a total badass & not a fairy tale telling Cena V.2, I'd have no problem.

Nah, he still wouldn't have been ready. Although he was ready a year ago, according to the chants at the 2014 Rumble from the same kind of fans that are upset that he won in 2015.
