TBH, I've never understood what the big deal is about LJNs. They don't look good, they can't really be played with (I was around for the tail end of the line, Hasbro's were more my time) and many of them can't be displayed well. Not true at all. I spent as much time, probably more playing with my LJN's than I did with my Hasbros. I had a fair amount of both. Loved them both, but if I had to choose I would go with the LJN's. I became a wrestling fan through the LJN line. The figures, the packaging, the posters...everything just exuded the personality of the Rock & Wrestling Era. All of the wrestlers were represented as the larger than life characters they were on TV without being over the top and cartoony like the Hasbro line. Before I had ever seen wrestling, without knowing who any of them were (other than Hulk Hogan), I was into the figures. As for playability, I think LJN and Hasbro were about the same. The LJN figures were more fun in the sense that you could pull off basic moves with them more easily, and there was just more satisfaction in LJN Hulk Hogan slamming a big heavy rubber John Studd against the floor, because you could pull the move off with one hand and really put your wrist into it to produce an epic slam that would annoy your parents for making so much noise and shaking the house. Hasbro Hogan executing a slam was different because you had to use two hands to pull the move off, mainly because they were made of hard plastic and they tended to just slip and slide against each other and your Hogan might drop your Andre about 5 times before successfully pulling off the move. On the other hand, Hasbros had a personality of their own and were fun because even though they couldn't pull off those basic moves as well, they had somewhat more options thanks to their movable arms. They were both great lines.

Awesome collection and great comparison photos. I also have been collecting since the LJN's first came out and still have them. Your LJN's look to be in pretty great shape compared to most that you come across. I hope Mattel gets to make more of the guys that were part of the LJN series.

I wish I still had my LJN's but I gave them all to my cousins back in the mid 90's.

Cool comparison pics buddy. Thanks for taking the time to do that. Looking at the LJN's really brings back memories for them and seeing them next to Mattel's really shows the evolution of toys in general.

Awesome Post! Loved looking through these. I was really young when the LJN's came out but I had a few. My favorites were Bundy, Valentine and Beefcake. That Bundy figure was a weapon, agreed.

Love the updated post. You have a great LJN collection. I'd love Mattel to recreate more of the LJN line!

Great post, Cyan. Just think, in 30 years, we'll look at Mattels and think, "THAT's what we played with?!"

Awesome thread! Cool pictures, and it's really impressive how great the condition of your LJN figures are. I started collecting during the Hasbro era and wish I could find loose LJNs in mint condition nowadays but most of them are all beat up ...

I have only read two lines of the original post, but I can already say thank you for such an incredible thread! At the risk of sounding unappreciative or impatient, we need this with Hasbro next! Great post man!!
