I suppose this is the only logical way for WWE to use Sting correctly without tarnishing the reputation he gained in WCW and TNA ... by randomly show up during matches and save the day, and storm away in the night for however many months? Triple H vs. Sting at WM 31 seems like it's set in stone. But who will Sting go after HHH? Bray Wyatt? Not sure, but I'm just not a fan of giving Sting a new nickname, lol. "The man called STING!" works just fine. It just seems WWE is trying too hard to keep Sting relevant by giving him "The Vigilante" nickname. That's just me, though.

Do you get off on insulting everyone that doesn't agree with you Nivro? You are not the end all be all knowledge of wrestling. Especially since you are a decade younger than me. You couldn't possibly know more than I do in life. My statement isn't ignorant. Try showing a little more respect. I still stand by my statement. We all have our opinions. WCW was a second rate company. More people knew at that time of Hillbilly Jim than Sting. I BET I could ask the average Joe on the street now on it and more people would know John Cena than Sting is. Sting has never been in the big leagues until now. Therefore he has been second rate his entire career. I guarnatee you that WAY more people knew who Sting was than Hillbilly Jim in the 90's. Saying that WCW was 2nd rate just because you didnt watch it is extremely ignorant.

WCW was just as big of a company as WWF.

While the Vigilante does make sense after what he did, it should not overtake what The Icon does for Sting.

Love how you threw in the nineties there. Since uh, Hillbilly Jim was no longer wrestling for the WWF in the nineties. Kind of makes your comparison wrong. Hillbilly Jim in the EIGHTIES was known more than Sting was. In the nineties Yokosuna was far more known than Sting. WWF was on far more stations back then than WCW could ever hope to be. They had a MUCH larger share in the action figure market. They had MUCH more ratings than WCW. Face it WCW was second rate. I think it is ignorant in saying WCW was number one in the eighties. That is SO false. You are looking at wrestling's past through rose colored glasses. WCW was number two. For decades. NWA was number two. For decades. Only for 83 weeks did WCW ever be number one. You didnt mention the 80's in the post I quoted either so... Anyway, Sting just started his career in 1987 after Hillbilly Jim was an established star. Of course more people will know him more than Sting.

Sting was not second rate, he could have fit right into WWF, WCW was second rate but not by much other than production. But 90s WCW was all sorts of awesome, Austin, Rude, Sting, Steamboat, Flair, Arn, Sid, Vader and Harley, Cactus, Muta. Who would you rather watch: WCW in 93 or WWF?
edit: Vigilante is a joke.

The WWF was not the end-all, be-all of wrestling, especially during the 90s. Even though they didnt go head to head from 1992-95, WCW programming like Saturday Night, Main Event, Worldwide was probably getting equal or better ratings than WWF programming at the time.

I joke about "Vigilante" in the RAW threads, but at this point, I'm over getting worked up about the name. He could be called the ing "Snow Flake" for all I care. I'm just glad to FINALLY have Sting on the roster.

Vince is a jerk for not using everybody's minor league nicknames! I bet he wouldn't even call a Hulk Hogan/Jeff Hardy/Abyss stable "Immortal" either, or let Shannon Moore carry around a book of dilligaf.

Ding Ding! And its laughable to say "WWF was on more channels"...WWF was on USA and WCW was on TBS. Its not like they had shows on every single channel. WCW actually put out more weekly programming then WWF did. WCW had just as much quality in ring talent and big names in their company as WWF did. I guess to some because you cant pick up Turner Broadcasting stations in a dinky Mexican bar attic it makes you "2nd rate"...Too bad the rest of the world didnt agree.

This doesn't surprise me.
I agree that most of WWE's nicknames for people lately have not been great so I think he should just be Sting..

I've been noticing it recently. I just thought it was wierd that they didn't refer to him as the man called Sting. When I hear vigilante I think of Batman or something. In the end I could possibly care less what they call him, I just hope that somewhere down the road we finally get to see Sting vs The Undertaker.

This is fine considering I've refused to call wrestling "sports entertainment" for nearly 30 years now.
Suck it, Vince.

Amen! Since 1987 baby! Never once flipped to Nitro. I don't watch AAA baseball and surely do not do it in wrestling. Saying WCW/NWA was "Triple A baseball" is pretty dumb. Without Starrcade there would be no Wrestlemania. Without Clash of the Champions there would be no monthly PPV. WWE themselves put men such as Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race, Eddie Guerrero, Brisco Brothers, Ricky Steamboat, Ron Simmons, Road Warriors and Booker T into THEIR Hall of Fame....and these are all guys who were WCW guys. Most of your "WWE Guys" were "WCW Guys" first. WCW had more weekly hours of wrestling on TV then WWF did. WCW ran in the same size arenas that WWF did. It would be a different story if we were talking about ECW compared to WWF as yes, they were more "minor league" but just because WCW didnt have the same ratings didnt mean there were minor league. They ran neck and neck with with WWF in every aspect of wrestling. That's a fact. Sorry, I know you have your opinion, but Stone Cold has had several people from WCW on his podcast and they have all stated and agreed multiple times that WCW was minor league. Those are guys who know a hell of a lot more about what they're talking about than people on here. I'm more inclined to agree with them.
