I collect a great number of figure lines.
He-Man, Star Wars, Turtles, Thundercats, Transformers
For Wrestling, Classic Superstars, Hasbro's, Elites, Legends, DM's, EG's, etc.
One thing I've noticed recently, is the ever increasing prices on reissues and masterpiece type editions of classic figures in the above lines. they are wildly popular.
I've recently noticed I lost some MOC Legends figures, Slaught, Rude, Kamala, Perfect......(I think they were stolen, but I've moved house twice) I'm begrudged to paying the massive prices on ebay.
Why is it that Mattel are not capatalising on this? Granted some figures didn't sell, but when you look at the price of some of the figures going on Ebay, there must be some market for reissuing some of the more popular figures released in the early days? Legends Warrior 6, I've seen go for 69GBp (110usd), Early Elite series, like Punk 1, 80 gbp What figures didn't you get, that would you like reissued? Do you think there is a market for this?

That's an interesting comparison. It seems Mattel prefers to release different versions of wrestlers instead of doing reissues. I think the closest the come is with Basic figures of previous Elites (or vice versa). As someone who has benefited from the secondary market, I'm hesitant to say "yes, do some reissues." But to be honest I'm looking forward to preferred versions of Sgt. Slaughter (already on the way), Jimmy Snuka and Rick Rude. And guys like Ultimate Warrior and HBK had so many great outfits, I feel using a new slot to reissue a previous version is a bit wasteful.
Perhaps if they could work them into an exclusive series or maybe do 1-2 a year based on the more popular guys?

Scalper!!! ;-) You are right, should be careful what we wish for, it would devalue our collections. Whilst, I have no intention of selling anything other than duplicates which are accumulated from time to time, it's still nice to know you could pick up some cash if you needed to. I'ts just the completist in me that is mad about my lost figures!!! I would imagine, that the costs of reissues are significantly lower for Mattel too.

Well, some figures are likely to never be reissued unless something within the company and the wrestlers status with WWE changes. Many superstars who have action figures but are no longer under WWE contract won't be getting figures again.
The only figure Mattel made that I didn't get but want is Terry Funk, BUT I want him in his ECW days anyway, so I guess I don't have any answers as to why Mattel hasn't made him again yet.
I'd also really like to see another Cactus Jack just not in "Wanted Dead" attire.

I think they should do some re-issues on hot figures. NOBODY asked for these Elite 26 Ultimate Warrior-only cases. Who decided to do that? This was not a figure that anybody had a particularly difficult time finding, nor was there too high of a secondary market price, even after his death!
I'd love it if they re-issued figures like Elite 12 Kane, Elite 16 Kevin Nash and Diesel....figures that everyone can agree were really difficult to find.

I wouldn't want straight-up re-releases. I don't mind new figures of people who have already appeared in the line, but re-releases just kind of punish those who already bought the first figure. And as we've seen with the likes of Goldust and Batista, new Elite figures of these wrestlers will definitely impact the secondary market prices on the existing figures. E6 Goldust with robe out of the package was a pretty easy $60 - $80 as recently as a year ago. Now it's maybe half of that because of the E29 figure. Understandable, and further proof why it's better to get updated versions of these figures. Those who already own the originals can treat themselves to new figures and the people who missed out will probably find the prices of the originals easier to digest once the market corrects itself.

I have a vague idea, I was in and out my dad's house for a while whislt moving myself. Had some stuff in my old room, lots of deliveries going all over the place. My sis would have been 15-16 at the time, half my age. Wouldn't be surprised if one of her dickhead mates took some for a laugh. I will live with it, I have enough great figures of those guys.

Certain Legends like Bam Bam, Arn, and Tully could use rereleases. Same goes for Flashbacks like Nash, Yokozuna, or Bossman however, most seem highly unlikely.

Part of what comes into play here is the demand, to justify the production cost on another run. I think I heard something once along the lines of the smallest run they would make would be 5,000. And that would be at exclusive pricing. I feel like they may be cautious when rereleasing a product where alot of their hardcore audience either already has it or passed on it at retail, would they then pay a premium? Very risky business. I know a lot of people missed out on some stuff,( myself included and I've had to pay up or do without) but I just wouldn't count on this happening. Repaints (like Slaughter) are probably as close as we get to another shot at some of those characters.

to quote MDT along the lines of "everyone in the original legends line will get re-done at somepoint"
take it as you will... but thats from the horses mouth.. so i do expect to see alot of reissues. As far as Matty exclusives go, i highly doubt youll see Tully/Arn again.

A straight up re-release should in theory cost a lot less.

Yes, but this isn't a new run. no new scan, no new design of figures/clothes/packaging. A straight up re-release should in theory cost a lot less.[/quote] Yes, agreed on that. But the set up, labor, and materials costs still exist. Also MDT says soft goods cost more now to produce than they did originally. So they'd still be looking at a limited run, which now means exclusive level pricing on what was once a $15-$20 mass retail figure. I understand where you are coming from as a fan and collector but the business of it just says to me not to get my hopes up for something like that. Mattel will want to maximize their potential buyers. For instance, if they reissued E15 Yokozuna, (which was already mass produced) I wouldn't need another, nor would many other collectors who already have it. But if they put him in white, and slapped a beard on him, maybe skipped the robe and threw in a tag belt or winged eagle, I'm for sure buying that, and so would the collectors who missed the first one.

I'd love another Diesel so that i can put the extra vest on the Kevin Nash figure, that I finally broke down and bought off Ebay.
Aside from that I think I'm good. I'd probably buy the Bushwhackers over again. I sold them off, and kind of regretted it later on. I did that a lot haha. I bought FB Edge twice, sold it twice, and now I still wish I had one. I'd rather Mattel just put out a WM17 Edge than re-release the E13 figure though. I've been collecting Mattel since day 1 though so I didn't really miss out on anything.
I honestly thought this was going to be like a retro idea thread. Wherein Mattel/Matty Collector would make current guys or guys under Legends deals into Hasbro style figures. I would buy those in a heartbeat.

I believe, like Jakks, Mattel values the secondary market. And while yes, the focus is and always has been kids, Mattel likes the fact that segment of the market place is us, collectors. And u keep collectors interested by making them chase. It also brings attention to the line from the outside, by having expensive figures. U also have to think about it from business stand point, almost all the figures that have increased in value, didn't sell well at all. They couldn't give Tully away at one point.
