Okay guys so after Shawn brought it to our attention, Trace and myself have spoken about possible ways to get around Thanksgiving.
It's well known that both Thanksgiving and Christmas usually lead to people not showing for matches in the WFWF and it's totally understandable as family and festivities take precedence in everyone's books I should imagine.
These are the two options we've come up with and personally we both prefer waiting until after Thanksgiving weekend, however we thought we'd put it to a democratic vote.
The PPV is a big one with a lot of important matches and so, what with most of the people on here being American, I want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to be able to RP for it. It would be a real shame for all of this build up to lead to a huge no show when it came to results.
Anyway, place your votes and we'll go from there.
EDIT - Here are the possible writing periods for the PPV:
20.11.14 - 04.12.14 (Thanksgiving in the first week of the period)
or
01.12.14 - 15.12.14 (Wait until after Thanksgiving weekend)
or (extended the deadline)
20.11.14 - 11.12.14

If we delay the card until after Thanksgiving, then that will potentially dip into Christmas time. Christmas time is a lot worse for no-shows, whereas Thanksgiving isn't as long as Christmas time.
I've already begun writing my PPV RP, and everybody who already has a match set should have at least started writing theirs.
If you space out your writing, and not leave it until last minute, it's easy writing during holidays. Just have to utilize your time.

Just to confirm the two possible writing periods are:
20.11.14 - 04.12.14
or
01.12.14 - 15.12.14
I'm actually pretty torn now I have those dates in front of me. If we left it until after the weekend of Thanksgiving we'd have two weeks of down time before then which could kill people's momentum.
What if we gave an extra option of an extended writing time compared to usual so at least if people are busy during the period they still have plenty of time to write:
20.11.14 - 11.12.14
I'll add that to the poll.

Sorry @progwd I had to remove and remake the poll to add the extra option. You'll have to vote again mate.

I vote for "any other bright ideas". we scrap the PPV and close the WFWF as a whole. it all! But seriously, the 11/20 to 12/11 seems like the best bet. Longer period with no delay, which should result in the least amount of no shows.

I voted three weeks, it would eliminate the layoff which as Brennan said would probably amount to the lowest amount of no-shows.

I'm usually opposed to elongated deadlines, but in the interest of minimizing non-productive downtime, I vote for the extended deadline. Dead time before the card is posted is going to hurt people like me who can easily begin an rp but might struggle to make much headway without knowing who their opponent is. A standard deadline - yeah, a lot of people aren't going to show. I wouldn't make a habit of the three week period, but for end of the year formalities, it makes sense.

Extended deadline sounds better to me. crap gets hectic after Thanksgiving with Christmas shopping and such.

Voted for the break, purely selfish because I already know my match, it'll be a fairly busy period for me anyway and the later the deadline the better as far as I'm concerned.

An idea if you're actively looking for alternatives and this vote ends up being close. When shows were taking a while last year it was suggested that the Development Center could be used to hold shows in the down time. You could run a house show style event in there with a normal deadline for those who are confident of showing/want another match soon (without the pressure of it being a proper competitive match), and then hold the PPV with the same deadline as option two. Although the three week deadline looks pretty popular at the moment, so that would probably be unnecessary.

Look at you, being British and using democracy. I'm proud of you two. I would say longer deadlines. Have a long deadline this show, maybe one show can get snuck in right before Christmas then a long deadline to space out Christmas/New Years week. I wouldn't be against that.

I'm fine with the break if I can know my opponent ahead of time, via PM or summat.

I'm all for the extended writing period. Actually any of the writing periods are fine, but it seems like we're heading toward the three week period so I'll go with that.

I am cool with keeping things running normally. The longer the break, the more likely I am to lose interest. And motivation is usually more of a problem than time constraints. I barely sleep as it is. I say 3 weeks if it means not delaying a card or people putting up rps. There is a good chance if we "take a break" or "go on a hiatus" I won't be waiting through it. I am impatient enough, boredom is basically the worst thing in the world.

Extending the deadline's probably best.
