Chase poked his head out from the alley he was hiding in. A police car with sirens blaring raced on by. Chase looked around before leaving the alley. As he was leaving the alley another police car appeared with sirens blaring. He dove back into the alley. He pulled Detective Faber's badge out of his pocket.
Chase, "I've got to get rid of this."
He saw a dumpster in the alley, ran over to it and lifted up the lid. He looked at the badge and threw it in. He started walking away.
Chase, "No, wait. No. My fingerprints are on that. They'll be able to get me on that."
He ran back to the dumpster and grabbed the badge. He put it back in his pocket. He walked to the alley entrance and looked around to make sure no more police cars were coming. None were so he left the alley.
Chase, "Garrett's famous. He's got to know big shot lawyers that can help me. I'll get to the arena and ask for a lawyer. Yeah, the lawyer will be able to make sure I don't get in trouble."
He hailed a cab and got in to go to the arena. The entire ride was spent watching out the back window making sure no cops were following. The cab arrived at the arena, he paid and ran inside.
He scurried around the backstage area trying to find Jayson Garrett. He couldn't seem to find him.
He saw some police officers and started to back away when he saw they were talking to Jayson Garrett. A panicked look came over his face. He began to tremble. He started running, looking back to see if any officers were following.
He exited the arena but saw a flock of fans. He continued to run as the fans screamed at him. He got to the street and hopped in a cab.
Chase, "Take me somewhere where there is no one around."
The driver took him to a wooded area. He handed the driver some money.
Chase, "Thanks. Keep the change."
He sprinted into the woods. He found a humongous tree and sat down with his back against it.
Chase, "Jayson has turned against me. If my own partner is against me then what does that mean my enemies will do? They'll certainly get the cops to get me. Garrett was talking to the police. They must have already tried everyone else. They must all have said they would cooperate with them. They're all going to get me. They are going to take me down. Garrett was the last piece of the puzzle. Once they got him, they could use him to lure me in. He lures me in and then my enemies appear to make sure I don't escape.
That's when the police make their move. They've been trying to get me for a while now but ever since Detective Faber was killed they've been relentless. I can't keep hiding like this. I can't keep going on like this.
I need to get rid of the badge. I need to go home and do something else with Faber's body. No body, no crime. No body, no crime. What if they are there now? What if they are digging up around my house? They're digging him up and I'm here. Oh God. What have I done? Why'd I leave? I should be there. I could have done something but they've already dug him up. Now they are trying to find me. I've evaded them so far. I must continue doing so.
Calm down, Chase. Think. Think. The badge. Yes, let's get rid of it."
He stood up and took the badge out of his pocket. He looked at the humongous tree. He started smashing the badge against the tree. Chase was getting increasingly frustrated as the badge wouldn't break. He screamed and threw the badge. He began kicking the tree. He punched the tree and let out another scream.
Chase, "Actually, you know what? I can't let them win. They win if I'm afraid and on the run. No, I have to go and confront them. I have to see where Garrett's loyalty is. With me or with the police. He'll have the chance to turn me in. If he does, I broke out of the hospital I could break out of anywhere.
I hate this tree. Why wouldn't you break the badge? Why? What's it take to take down something massive? I could kick and punch all day and this tree would continue to stand. It's going to take more extreme measures to make it fall.
I have to take on the human equivalent of a tree. Zmey, seven feet one inch tall. Kicks and punches won't make him fall. Extreme measures must be taken to make the giant fall.
I have to prove myself. Joshua Dean is a casualty of that. I superkicked that chair into his face. I need to prove I'm just as good as Garrett. I'm going to be a winner and prove to myself and everyone that I'm not a weak link. That I'm not weighing this team down. That we can win because of me not in spite of me. I'll do whatever it takes to prove all that. If that means making some enemies so be it. If it means superkicking chairs into more people's face, so be it."
He suddenly began running.
Chase, "I have to get that badge back. I can't just leave it out here. I have to get the badge and go back to the arena."
He ran over to where he threw the badge. He looked around and found it. He put it back in his pocket. He started to run again, this time to get out of the woods. He ran out and saw the cab was still there. Chase opened the door and got in.
Driver, "I figured you'd want a ride somewhere and I knew no other cab was going to come out this way."
Chase, "Thank you. Back to the arena please."
Driver, "Sure thing."
