The other day I went into TRU and after once again finding nothing good I thought to myself "would I even care if TRU went out of business?". It's no secret that TRU didn't do well for the holidays last year and that Amazon basically kicked their ass all around. With online shopping becoming increasingly more popular and TRU's lack of good stock I fear every kids favorite toy store could be on it's way out in the next few years. Don't get me wrong, I use to LOVE this store as a kid, as I'm sure so did every other WWE figure collector out there. I buy all of my Elite figures online so the only time I even bother looking at TRU for something is when the new BAF sets come out. It's no secret that the inventory with these sets have all been messed up taking the only thing TRU had going for them (at least imo) away from us collectors. My TRU hasn't even stocked a new Elite set since Elite 28 and no new basics since basic 39. Yet Big Lots yes BIG LOTS of all places has basic 41 in stock. While not the newest basic set it's certainly newer than basic 39. This might not be a big concern for me because I order my Elite's online (as well as any first time ever basics) it's quite sad that the biggest toy store skips several Elite sets, then over stocks with one set while Target and Walmart continue to get newer sets before TRU.
So the question is, in this day and age would you even care if TRU went out of business? My short answer would be no, which might shock some people but if TRU wasn't around these BAF sets would likely just become exclusive to Amazon or Target where they would be much easier to maintain rather than sit in a warehouse for months.

Well....yeah, thousands of people would lose their jobs... Obviously, but I'm talking aside from that. Nobody wants to see anyone lose their jobs.

We already lost KB... I'd be highly upset if we lost TRU as well

Yeah, I'd miss it. In the UK it's not that big a deal because Smyths is so much bigger and better for WWE stuff, but still, Toys R Us is the one with the history.

Yeah I would because they actually restock much faster than any of my local Targets. Plus I collect Marvel Legends too, and my Targets and Kmarts have been peg warming all those Captain Americas.

at this moment, no. I can't even tell you the last time I bought a WWE figure there. they never, ever have the BAF's in stock,or I should say the current sets stocked. went there several times since September looking for their exclusive Universal Monsters figures, and just the past xouple weeks looking for 21-1 Lesnar, and came up empty every time.
I'll put it this way - I would miss the atmosphere and novelty of shopping in a true toy store, but I wouldn't miss always walking out of there with nothing.

I have a love-hate relationship with TRU. Most visits are disappointing and I leave empty handed, but I would be sad to see them go. I have some interest in practically every action figure line, but since SDCC, I've been to TRU about 5 times. After SDCC they had some Transformer exclusives, once I got them, I barely care about going there. I used to go at least twice a week. Except for exclusives, I'm able to find most of everything else at another store before TRU gets theirs in. When was the last time TRU had an elite wave before Target, Walmart, or Kmart? In my case, I think E23.

I buy more than simply WWE. I haven't bought many WWE figures there this year, true, but I have gotten loads of Neca, Marvel Legends, Marvel Universe, and Star Wars figures there. So few stores carry Neca and Mezco and so on, so yes, I would be. From a purely WWE standpoint, not so much.

Nope!! Tell me the last time TRU got an elite or basic series first??? Target has been getting everything first for a long time now (since maybe e 20/21). The only thing I need from TRU are the exclusives.

Yes...no physical stores exist..kids today don't understand the joy of having multiple toy stores...now it's games games games.
Games were great but around 2005 with dlc And host of other changes, games seriously lost PHYSICAL value.
Anyhow...i miss toy stores...seeing train sets displayed...racing sets...
Amazon in recent years have raised prices and its very minute differences in prices now.

Why would I want TRU to go out if business? Nevermind all the people would would be out of work that is where I find most of the figures from all the lines (DC/Marvel/SW/TWD/Neca Movie figures/WWE) just to list a few.

Yeah I would be super upset. It would be one less place to buy figures and would probably allow online retailers to raise prices even more. I also would much rather find a figure on a shelf or out of the stockroom than order it. For me, hunting for the figures I want is a big part of the excitement of collecting. The only figures I order offline are exclusives and older figures. Also, it seems that the best place to buy wwe figures varies from year to year. And the great thing about tru is that they usually have regular truck days which allows you to save gas if you know when to go.

Remember in the '80s when they had a wall of video game covers, and you'd take the slip and pay for it then you took it to another counter and they gave you the game. Also, remember their orange stickers?

TRU and Kmart are the only stores that I ever find anything I need. I couldn't tell you the last time I bought a WWE figure at Target or Walmart. Target only ever has 5 figures hanging on the pegs every single time I go in there, and Walmart only ever has tons of Basic pegwarmers. Remember in the '80s when they had a wall of video game covers, and you'd take the slip and pay for it then you took it to another counter and they gave you the game. Also, remember their orange stickers? those orange stickers! Hands down, THE worst price stickers any retailer has ever had. I'm convinced they had super glue on the back of them!
