I received a couple of figures this week through a trade and the owner was obviously a smoker. They smell like a tobacco barn.
After washing the figures in warm water several times, I've came to the realization that I may have to send them back and cancel the deal.
Before I take such drastic measures, does anyone have any advice on how to get the smoke smell out of Mattel Elite figures? Is it possible?
Thanks for any advice.

I've heard people say they put the figures in zip locks with some kind of scent or soap and water etc.. Not entirely sure but heard it could take a week to weeks

That's probably the most annoying thing about buying loose figures from other people.

Putting them in a bad with fabric softeners, maybe?

That's probably the most annoying thing about buying loose figures from other people. It really is. I wish the person would have told me he's a smoker. I could have avoided the headache (both literal and figurative.)

Yeah I kind of hate that when receiving a figure through the mail and that horrible smoke smell hits your face its just awful what I do is usually take a bowl and fill it up with water and mix it with dish washing soap and scrub it gently it does due the trick for me.

I ran into this once. I bought an Elite 8 Drew McIntyre, the picture that was shown had perfectly normal looking white kneepads and trunks. However, when I got him, they were yellow stained and the whole figure stunk like a cigar. So I myself am looking to a solution to this problem. I was more than pissed, hopefully someone has a good fix for this problem.

I could have avoided the headache (both literal and figurative.) I had this problem recently, and even after I washed the figure multiple times, the faint smell still exists. I guess the odor penetrates deep into the plastic.

It's extremely hard to get out. I bought an E8 Edge and unbeknownst to me, the seller was/is a smoker. Edge is on his second ziplock bag with a box of baking soda in there with him. It's been two or three months, I believe, and he still has a faint smell of smoke.

I bought a Monster Patrol collectible that reeked of smoke. All I did was stick it in front of my cold AC all day and it went away.

I don't want to wait a week or two, let alone a month or two to be able to display the figures. I would love to get MattelDesignTeam to weigh in on this and let us know if there is anything we can do to remove the stench of smoke from our figures.

Try stuff like Lysol febreeze ? No, I was kind of hesitant to use any sort of chemicals. I didn't want to damage the figures in case I do have to send them back.

To be honest I always spray any loose used figure I buy or receive from trade with Lysol. It's never caused damage and always makes them smell better. I personally do it because I'm a mini germaphobe.

I have tried using lemon scented products to at least mask the smell.
the smell is especially strong and lingers on knee and elbow pads

I'd send them back. It's too much bother worrying over the smell of action figures.

Thin coats of Lysol will do the trick. Won't damage your figs or paint apps.
