Cumberbatch plays the exact same ice-cold character over-and-over again. I've seen him in a ton of stuff, the Fifth Estate, the first 2 "Seasons" of Sherlock, Star Trek, The Hobbit, Atonement, War Horse the Whistleblower, Tinker Tailor, and 12 Years a Slave. He's a one dimensional cardboard box. Sorry that hurts your feelings if you have some kind of man crush on him but there are roughly 25 other actors I can name off the top of my head who would be a better fit for Strange. That's also not to say I didn't enjoy him in stuff either, so Star Trek and The Hobbit for instance. Nailed it. Last year when I saw 12 Years A Slave, I couldn't help but notice how terrible of an actor he is.. I told my friends after the movie how bad he was in it.. He couldn't show emotion, his accent slipped through multiple times.. He was the only misstep of that entire movie.. I mean, he's definitely good for certain roles, but so far he is not a good actor. He was good as Khan, he was awesome in The Hobbit.. But when he tries to act, it's atrocious. The Fifth Estate really solidified my opinion too.. That movie was sh*t and he was sh*t in it. The guy has a great outlook though.. Good personality and seems to be truly amazed at the amount of success he's received.. There's a giant circle jerk going on for Benedict right now, and I think it has to do with Sherlock (which I've never watched), and the fact that he's a humble guy.

Oh.. and if Cumberbatch kills it, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. I will do the same with Gadot.....I'm rooting for her but I cant help feeling she is a catastrophic piece of casting..... I hummed and hawed about Ledger too(I'm damn picky about Joker.. He's my guy) but like I always do with an actor of director? I will give them a shot. I just think BC is a great for Dr Strange......his casting announcement met with great approval from me.

Sherlock is probably in the top 5 best shows on TV right now. If there's a 'circle-jerk' around it its richly deserved, because its on the same level as Game of Thrones, True Detective, House of Cards and Hannibal. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Cumberbatch is brilliant in it and deserves all the praise he gets.

You wanna see a horrible movie but with amazing acting by Cumberbatch? Check out August Osage County. That movie was the pits! But Cumberbatch was phenomenal in it. Once you watch it, you'll understand how it could be a horrible movie but he was still amazing.
I loved him in 12 years. And I'm on the band wagon, but mine all started with Sherlock. I think everything else he has done has been incredible. He can just disappear into any role and its unreal.

I am so excited for Agents of Shield this week. Sucks that when I can finally watch it live (next week) it won't even be on anymore though.

But just because an actor is really good on his TV show doesn't mean he's a brilliant actor that should be cast in everything.. He's not a very good actor. His personality is getting him jobs because everything about him is recognizable. It's always Benedict Cumberbatch playing himself, it's never Benedict Cumberbatch playing a character.

I think he'll be a better fit over Bubble Boy.

I strongly disagree that he only plays himself. That's not the truth, at all. He's brilliant. Always is. And I haven't seen him play a character close to himself really at all yet.

Whoa, some people get touchy fast We all just need to admit we all have different opinions.
If we're throwing Cumberbatch film suggestions I'd say watch Frankenstein. It was a stage show so it might be hard to get hold of but totally worth it. The other Sherlock, Johnny Lee Miller (Elementary) played opposite him. They alternated the roles of Dr Frankenstein and the monster. It's an excellent display of acting.
In terms of other miscasting, I think it's hard to slate a casting when the film hasn't been made or seen yet. Because like it has been said the actor may surprise you. Plus, you don't know how close they're sticking to the comics. They may take it a different way and still be highly enjoyable.

I'm not sure why the swift and strong defense for Benedict.. He's a MEDIOCRE actor who is popular. It's not uncommon.. And this isn't an opinion it's fact.. The people defending him are also trying to make it seem that he is one of the best actors around right now.. He is not. I can name 25 off the top of my head that are better than him, and have the critical praise backing it. Martin Freeman, is a better actor than Benedict Cumberbatch. I think he'll be a better fit over Bubble Boy. Bubble Boy is a good actor though.

I'm not sure whether you understand the concept of a fact. Unless of course, you have some kind of Tyson Kidd gimmick. It's an opinion and everyone is entitled to one. This is a message board, it is made for people to give those opinions. Are you expecting us to go, "Whoa, this guy said it was a fact, then it must be, end of discussion." Like for example, I would imagine most of the members on this forum dislike Justin Bieber. Does it make it a fact that he is a bad singer because of that? No, because people do like him, Millions in fact. So he is only a bad singer to the people who believe him to be a bad singer. A little bit over-explained, I'm pretty sure everyone knows the concept of a fact really. Maybe it was just a turn of phrase or whatever, in which case I apologise. It just irked me a bit. Anyway, move on. Continue the discussion.

A little bit over-explained, I'm pretty sure everyone knows the concept of a fact really. Maybe it was just a turn of phrase or whatever, in which case I apologise. It just irked me a bit. Anyway, move on. Continue the discussion. I absolutely 100% understand the concept of a "fact".. My facts coming from critics and the criticism he has received from roles he has portrayed outside of his 'Sherlock' series and character.. When I read, hear, and even talk to others about Benedict Cumberbatch, it always comes back around to "he's amazing in Sherlock".. Not "loved him in 12 Years", or "he did great in The Fifth Estate".. It's Sherlock and "wasn't he the voice of Smaug". I don't expect to sway anyone to my side of the argument, no intentions.. But I'm going to state my case of "great actor" versus "popular actor". Which I stated is not uncommon.. Plenty of popular actors started out as mediocre actors that became good actors.. He may get there, he may not.. I'm not mad people like him, I'm frustrated that his faithful have crowned him without merit.. He has powerful range, one of the most noticeable faces and voices to come along in a long, long while.. But he has trouble separating Benedict from character. People are very much entitled to an opinion, but sometimes an opinion is a fast way to ignore the flaws of a situation your opinion favors.. Speaking in general.

All I know is that, Cumberpatch makes me interested in watching the Dr Strange movie, and I haven't seen even a glimpse of him in Sherlock. I'm sure he will do a fantastic job.

Pacino?
Good grief they are really pulling some of the older top tier talent in. Close, Redford, Douglas and now Pacino? I wonder who he could be playing?

He's talked about wanting to be in a Marvel film before. No idea who he would play though. Would definitely love seeing him in one, one of my favorites.

Hmmmm not bad.....on a side note its GREAT that Slattery is reprising his role from IM2 as Howard in Ant Man. I can see a Tony cameo post credits too...... Joker man, I'm really worried about the future of comic movies.. Right now this is hot, it's an extremely exciting time to be a movie fan, and a movie fan who is into comic books! We're in the middle of the boom right now, Guardians proved that. And I'm totally enjoying the ride. But dude, a few years from now after WB has released their slab of films, and with Marvel pumping out 3 sometimes 4 a year.. Not including X-Men movies and Spider-Man attempts. The market will have been flooded.. And will this be a good thing or a bad thing? I'm a huge fan, but after The Infinity Wars, other than GotG, I'm not sure what I'll have to look forward to with Marvel.. I'll give every new Marvel film a chance of course, but I digress. I just wonder if the general audience will eventually get tired, or if losing the original cast will have any impact on the general audience.. I mean this is clearly years from now, but I still wonder how long it'll last.. Do they have an end game? Or are they going to ride it 'till the wheels fall off? I always thought they were building up to Thanos on the Infinity Gauntlet. They'll have 2 movies to tell that story.. Then what. What could possibly be the next step? I'm 100% convinced Spider-Man is going to end up back at Marvel tho.. And that will be huge for not only us fans and Marvel, but for this era of film.. IDK though.. I think about the future of it all from time to time.
