Since this weekend I've been having a serious debate with myself (and pals @barrettbarrage & PJ) about weather or not I want to be a MOC or Loose collector. I started this year with three figures and now I have over 125, all MOC. In the last month I've been fighting an uphill challenge where its becoming increasingly harder to find mint, crisp cards in stores. This past weekend has proven itself to be the worst week in collecting for me, I've picked up B41 Santino, BP29 (all three), Amazon Exclusive Mankind, among others (not to mention the several I had to pass on because of card condition). Of the five I just mentioned, only the CM Punk/Ryback BP has a mint card, everything else is dented/creased/ripped to some extent. What is annoying is that apparently this is how all the Mankind are showing up, every Basic since Summer Slam Heritage is coming out of the box ruined, and now these Battle Packs are being stocked dented (this is the first I've seen BP be this bad fresh out of the box on the pegs for 12 hours, but with the recent Basic trend...). This week too, I've had to pass on two figures I needed (because of card condition), bought three new figures to replace priors I had based on card condition, and pack up four boxes of figures with no idea where to put them. Also, I have about $60 in returns to complete for figures of cards I needed to replace. I love being a MOC collector, because a mint figure that's housed in a crisp package just looks amazing. They look great displayed, and its a little more of a challenge as a collector. Last night during Raw, I was teasing @barrettbarrage about "If Miz wins I go loose", then once he won, I followed it up with "*only if title changes hands". I also spent part of the show looking at loose figures & display stands on Ringside. I'm at a crossroads. I need convincing arguments from both sides as to which is better. I have no space to display either MOC or Loose. If I became loose, I'd honestly follow a method like the one discussed here: www.onepercase.net/2012/04/psa-how-to-store-action-figures-like.html until I was able to do something more ideal. And I have a few nice MOC pieces that I would hate to open because of a decrease in value, but that's part of it, I don't plan on selling my figures, but I'm afraid of the potential monies lost. This is from two months ago forum.wrestlingfigs.com/thread/304508/collector-6-months-pics-inside, my collection has nearly doubled since. So there you have it, right now I feel neutral. I'm not a MOC collector looking for a convincing argument to stay MOC. Just at this point I'm not sure which direction to go. Update: As of this post I have gone loose* (*there are a few things I will get or keep MOC - Ringside Exclusives, Legends, Matty Collector, etc.) Here's a few pictures of my "updated" collection. Since the stands hold six figures, I grabbed the first five complete sets I had on top of the pile.

Honestly I prefer being a loose collector. Being able to display your figures on a shelf is just awesome mostly when one has as many figures as you got.
I personally can never resist keeping a figure MOC.

If you plan on customizing, posing or playing with them then open em' up ... If you just want to collect and think that maybe one day you'll grow tired of collecting down the road, then you'll get way more by keeping them all MOC.
I'm not saying keep them MOC for profit later on down the road or anything like that but you seem like you want to just collect, so thats what I would do.

I'm just into the hunting/collecting/displaying aspect of it.

If all you want to do is look at the fig and nothing else and you have lots of house space then moc If you enjoy posing, playing, actually arranging figs in a row, and want to keep the figs your whole life then collect loose.

MOC takes up far too much room and collections that display and are posed always look better to me. I finally found an e29 Rowan today, and let me tell you my elite Bray looks far better sitting in his built rocking chair than either figure looks displayed in the box. But if you're up to 125 figs all in box, then it sounds like you've made your choice already. I always say free your toys from their plastic prisons, but you've gotta live your life..... Real men open their toys and don't worry about resale or justification of their hobby.

You know my feeling on it. Loose all the way. They take up alot less space when loose and they look great together on shelves. Of course even loose you run out of space eventually especially if you collect many other lines like I do. lol

Since I started collecting, I've decided to have them loose. I think I'll keep some exclusives in the box though.

Do you have any loose Mattels? Why not buy a couple extras of your favorite wrestler and open them up to see if you might like collecting loose. You don't want to open all your figures then regret it later if loose collecting isn't your thing.
I bought bags from the store in your link. I went through 1000 bags, bagging up 4" Star Wars and GI Joe from 90s-00s. I used to have everything thrown in boxes, now it's nice having each figured bagged with all its accessories. Took a lot of time and research.

I do both, as it does save space and I get that satisfaction of holding them and getting a much better view of their beauty . And two I love the way they look on my shelf. Some MOC because I may want to get rid of them down the line and I could have the option. Either way I save all my elite boxes so I can just repack them. If I were you, I'd open the ones you really want opened and save the rest. Like for me I have the Wyatt family elites opened, and when the Usos come, I'll open those because I like the way those look. When the TRU exclusive Brock Lesnar comes out, I'm keeping that baby in the box because it's historic . So I guess it depends on the collector, I like both MOC and loose. it's cooler to show them off with all their glory out of the box.

Take one or two of those messed up carded figures and open them. Preferably an Elite and just fiddle around with it for a little while putting it in various poses and you will have your answer.

I've always been a loose collector. Up until recently I have been keeping my legends basics MOC because they don't take up as much space. But my elites get freed as soon as I get to my car after my purchase. Am I the only one who can't wait until they get home to open their figures?

lol. There's plenty of times the carding is dropped into the trash outside the exit of a store.

If I went Loose...what is the preferred method with cards and boxes, does anyone collect them? Should I just recycle them?

How much space are you planning to have down the road? If you're not looking to resell down the line, and to be honest, most of these figures aren't going to fetch enough on the secondary market to make it worth the hassle, room to showcase will be your biggest factor.
The pros of MOC involve most protection from dust and air and minor dusting on top of the box, while the two cons are limited space to display and never being able to move the figure from the pose it's in.
The dusting of a loose shelf can be tedious, but there are nice glass display cases from places like Ikea that run less then $100 and will limit dust too. You'd have the enclosed display while keeping the space benefits of being loose.
