I am displaying my elite 8 edge and the coat sticks to it will that cause paint loss

Not likely but I'd still be careful. My Elite 8 Edge has a few paint defects on his stripe and I barely handled the figure so it must've been when he tipped over on my display or something. Mattel has to fix whatever they're using on figures with designs on their front legs cause they always scuff up. One good example being Sin Cara Elites. Silver paint apps tend to fade also.

That rubber can and will stick to designs and lift them off. It is roughly the same material as the DC Direct capes are made of and I remember opening a box after years of storage only to find paint lifted off other toys onto the capes.
If the temperature is shifting too much, particularly too hot, then I could foresee a problem. If you want to leave it on just maybe shift it every few days. I think constant contact with one spot is what would do it.

I've been displaying some figures with coat since forever. Never caused paint loss.
