Sacramento State University
Office #463
Mr. Davidson sits in his office on the campus of Sacramento State. It’s almost 4:30, just a half hour till he can go home he thinks to himself. He is the drama teacher and play coordinator for Sacramento State. His desk is full of pictures of past plays, Broadway plays, and a signed picture of Tom Hanks is prominent on the desk as well. He sits there on his computer finishing up some work in Excel. As he does this there are multiple windows of Internet Explorer are open. There’s a knock at the wooden door:
“Come on in.”
Jayson Garrett walks into the office.
“Hi Mr. Davidson, you wanted to see me today?”
Jayson is a sophomore at Sacramento State majoring in theatre arts and is very heavily involved in school plays. He has already starred in two lead roles in what was an almost entirely senior cast. Davidson considers him to be a star film pupil, he can act, he’s able to be put into any role and do it great, and has a charming quality about him. Mr. Davidson in fact asked him to stop by his office for film reasons.
“Yes I did, go ahead and take a seat.”
Jayson sits down in a wooden chair. The chair has red cloth padding that is on the back and the seat of it. He takes a scan of the room. Among the pictures on his desk are many things on the walls. There’s play props, signed baseball hats placed on shelves, signed helmets of Sacramento State and NFL teams alike, and signed records and CDs. You could almost create a Sacramento State alumni hall of fame with his office alone.
“Jayson I must say that you have been progressing at a great pace. It is once in a blue moon that I get a student who wins the lead role in our plays as not just a freshman but as a sophomore too.”
If there was one downfall to the ability Jayson Garrett had, it would be the fact that people did not shy away from telling him just that. His parents, family, family friends, even teachers, they had no trouble in telling Jayson that he was indeed good. It hadn’t occurred yet, but Jayson soon developed a great ego as a result of consistently being told he was a star or a prodigy or any other high praise he would receive.
“Thank you sir, I enjoy starring in the plays here.”
“I am glad you do, and I assume you’ll be trying out for this year’s spring play as well, correct?”
“Well of course. Without a doubt.”
“Great, but speaking to you about our plays. I’ve been contacted by a Sacramento State alumnus, Robert Childers, who is producing a movie. There’s a working title, it’s called Millionaires’ Club. It’s about a group of wealthy people are businessmen that each run a respective rival organization and attempt to underhandedly sabotage them. They need someone college age to be one of their sons and he asked me if there were any talented students, I mentioned you Jayson.”
“I’m flattered you’d offer me this opportunity. When is it starting to film? Is it around here?”
“It’ll begin filming over the summer around the city, even some on campus I believe. Your character would play a big part he said. Would you be alright with spending some of your summer on campus filming this movie?”
“No of course not, that wouldn’t be a problem at all.”
“Wonderful, I’ll be giving him your information and let him know you’d be very interested.”
“Great, thank you very much Mr. Davidson.”
“Thank you, I’ll see you later Jayson.”
Jayson now gets up and shakes the hand of the man who has just gotten him his first role in a movie.
As a junior Jayson got the lead role for the spring play once again. This was almost as preparation for his cinema debut. Following his third year of college, he stayed on campus until the movie production rolled in. Then began filming in early July and it started on campus. He had exchanged e-mails with Robert Childers who stated he would be coming to see the spring play. Garrett excelled and following the play Childers went up to meet him.
“Jayson Garrett, it’s nice to meet you, I’m Robert Childers, I’ll be the director for Millionaires’ Club which my former, your current, teacher Mr. Davidson recommended you for. After being here tonight I can certainly see why.”
“Thank you, I’m looking forward to working with you this summer.”
“As am I with you. We’re hoping that this will be a big breakout movie for many actors we’ve casted, including you.”
At this time Childers pulls out a packet from a folder.
“Here is the rough script, there’ll surely be changes but I thought you’d like at least a rough copy so you can see what your role will be in this movie. Feel free to look it over and let me know via e-mail if you have any questions. I have to head out as I’ve got a plane tomorrow morning but it was a pleasure meeting you.”
Jayson’s character was that he was the son of one of the men in said millionaires club. He was a college student who would just so happen to get caught up in his dad’s rivalry with the rest of the men. This meant he would be a huge part in what is the story being told. Jayson could not wait to get out and start filming.
“I certainly will. It’s a pleasure to meet you too.”
Garrett shakes his hand and Childers leaves.
He was able to meet the cast and Childers once again on their first day at Sacramento State. His first day on set was in downtown Sacramento. Though he wasn’t needed, Childers and his producer figured it would be a good idea to give him some experience out on location for a movie. The next day they would start their Sacramento State shooting which included Garrett in the most scenes throughout the whole movie. Garrett was also consulted on the details of the movie. Occasionally Childers would ask:
“Jayson, where would you be sitting outside while on campus?”
Or:
“Jayson, what coffee shop is the best spot for hanging out?”
His help gave the realism that Childers wanted and only made him enjoy his performance even more. He spent 15 days on the set filming and the movie was released that next year. Before release his acting was being billed by the director as well as the entire rest of the cast as magnificent. A new star was undoubtedly on the rise. The raving of the cast about his performance only enhanced what was perceived to be an already wonderful
showing from Jayson. In time, he began to find a new love for starring in movies.
Despite the fact that Garrett enjoyed being in plays, that first movie gave him a new passion to perform on the big screen. The red carpet events, the premiers, the fame and world recognition, these things all made him love the movie industry. Robert was right when he said this movie would be a breakout role for him. Critical acclaim began to pour in for his performance. Despite the minor role compared to what the plot was mainly focused on, Garrett was hailed as the next great young actor. Following his final year in the play, he took on another summer role in Sacramento and star only skyrocketed from there.
Now Jayson Garrett’s picture is featured on Mr. Davidson’s desk, he is no longer the college kid taking roles thanks to the play director. Garrett wanted a new challenge and he got that when he decided to fulfill his other childhood dream, to become a wrestler. Gone is he whom is bright eyed in the spotlight of the red carpet or under the bright arena lights wrestling for the WFWF. In his place is a man desensitized to the fame, fortune, and stardom that comes with being a champion.
Jayson Garrett is now the man who makes legends scatter and all those who dare think about stepping in the ring with him run for cover. Justin Tyger is the next man, a shell of his former self. An indy sensation, but the independents mean nothing to him. Things that happened years ago don’t matter. What matters to him is what will happen at Twisted. He knows what will happen. He is going to make sure Tyger is unable to even continue the National Championship Tournament after he is finished with him.
Chase Landon, a man that he called his partner, a man he tried to make see things from a different perspective is now gone in the blink of an eye. He has stayed in contact with Frame who, outside of her video, has nothing else to report. He can’t focus on Chase though, not now, not yet. Not when he has Justin Tyger and another man looming in wait.
That man is Drakz. Jayson Garrett has complete and utter disdain for Drakz. The fact that Drakz thinks he can teach him respect drives Jayson mad. How dare he comment on another man’s respect? The mere idea of this draws hate filled laughs. The only man in fact that he feels disrespected outside of Chase Landon is Drakz. That’ll change when the two men square off and he’ll show Drakz that he doesn’t need to be made by him or need respect, he’s fine already, all by himself. He will make Drakz second guess this challenge when he defeats Justin Tyger, but it’ll be too late for Drakz to call off this match. Jayson Garrett is waiting for Drakz.
