Nah, Lawler didn't really need the title. He gets over just being the "King". And like it was said. He was brought in to be on commentary at first and only wrestled once in a while basically. I don't see any timeline where Lawler should have ever been WWF/WWE champion. I do think he should have won at WrestleMania, so at least he could have shut up about never wrestling on the card. I've seen a lot of his Memphis stuff and Lawler is really the "King" down there. But it makes you think how Lawler would have fared if he wasn't the booker who gave himself all those title reigns. Also I wonder if it weren't for Andy Kaufman, would we really know who the King is? He'd basically be a nobody today. I don't think he's ever been anything special in the ring.

I voted no, but deep down i was hoping he would beat the Miz. Jerry Lawler was a hot heel during his feud with Bret Hart . . . but he didn't really accomplish much in WWE to have merited a WWE championship reign . . that being said . . . there are a lot of people who did nothing in WWE who were made champion so . . . . 6 of one half dozen of the other i suppose.

Yeah he should've totally beaten The Miz.

I don't think he should have personally. I just don't think he would of cut as a world champion.

Nope. He was never really good enough, even when Bret Hart carried him. His match at WM against Cole was an abomination too. In fact, it still pisses me off that Jerry and Cole are on commentary instead of JR (who also carried him).

You're over estimating how often he actually had the book in Memphis.

I loved 80's Lawler. But Lawler wouldn't have fared well against Hogan, Savage, or Warrior in WWE. By the time he finally did come to WWE his best years were behind him.

By the time Lawler came to WWE in 1993, he was already in the twilight of his in ring career. There were too many years spent associated with the NWA and the AWA to ever have a viable title reign.
The NWA wouldn't make Lawler the champion either. That's why he separated the Mid-South's ties w/ the NWA in favor of the AWA (who had agreed to make him their champion).
Even if Lawler would have been associated with the WWE in the 70's or 80's, he wouldn't have been champion. He may have been a strong contender for Backlund and Hogan, but neither were going to drop the belt to Lawler.
I do wish that Lawler would have beaten Miz in the ladder match they had on Raw a couple of years ago. A short reign would have been a fitting way to cap off an amazing career.

Lawler wasn't the booker the entire time he was in Memphis. He did spend the latter part of his career in the Mid South as a booker/owner, but that wasn't the case when he broke into the business. Lawler was already the centerpiece of the Continental Wrestling Association long before his feud with Andy Kaufman. Jerry Jarrett and Nick Gulas were the bookers/owners at that time. They later split w/ Lawler siding w/ Jarrett.

i sure I'm not alone in this but i really did feel like he was gonna win it in the Ladder match with the Miz. wow. Great match and somehow i feel like that was the only time he would have ever held it. He could have when he feuded with Bret but i dont think he was a big enough name or relevant enough at the time.

He should've beat the Miz and held it for like a day or even a few hours

Jerry was one of the best, most over heels WWE had from 1993-1996 but that being said there is no where in that time frame where I could see him getting the belt.

Yeah I thought they were gonna give it to him against Miz just so he can add it to all of the titles he's won over his entire career, but then of course lose it the next week or something
