Shawn is an amazing performer, but not my Mr. Wrestlemania, that distinction goes to Hogan.

You really think win percentage matters in pro wrestling? The guy consistently put up excellent matches at WM and that's the point. The only other guy who would have a valid claim to Mr. Wrestlemania is Undertaker and that's it. Yes, because as I stated, I have only seen a portion of them. It wasn't until the 6th match of his I seen that there was anything worthwhile. Then I said I should have probably waited and saw the remaining to ask this question. From what I've seen so far it was nothing exciting, certainly not deserving of the title he gave himself and I became curious.
But yes, winning percentage should matter because if you're claiming to be named after the companies biggest event you better have something to back it up with. To me with a 35% winning percentage, that's like being a bronze medal winner, but claiming to be the greatest Olympian. He may of had great matches, but to have a great match is a two man effort (in my opinion).
I continue on with XI tonight.
If you want to talk potential "Mr. WrestleManias", then Yokozuna is in my running because his match with Lex Luger at X was such a test of my patience and sanity that he deserves an award.

Because Shawn has the most 5 star matches at Wrestlemania. It has nothing to do with him being a winner, just like him being "The Showstopper" doesn't mean the TV cameras turn off when he comes out.
Rob Van Dam was Mr. Monday Night and the Whole F'n Show, but he wasn't in every match on Raw.
They're nicknames. End of the day, they exist because they said it and it stuck. You should just be happy he didn't call himself "Mr. Wakkadoogal" because then you'd have to say that.

Because he's the greatest in ring performer of all time and proves that wins/losses do not always make a lasting difference in this sport.

1) he's been in more Mania matches than most others 2) he's had so many great matches at Mania 3) he's had several #1 MATCH OF THE YEAR matches at WrestleMania

Anyone who is looking at his winning percentage is completely missing the point. . His W/L record has nothing to do with match performance. The man competed at a level that had never been see before. And when I say that I'm only talking thru 1998. Then when he came back, he made decent guys look great, & great guys look phenomenal.

I'm pretty sure it's because nobody outperformed Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania. Go ahead and watch all of the Streak matches. You'll be asleep by like, the 3rd or 4th one. Shawn Michaels didn't wow anyone with the WrestleMania matches during his Rocker days or his early heel turn. However, from WrestleMania X and down, he had Match of the Year candidates nearly every year. Even going back to WrestleMania IX, his match with Tatanka was pretty good. I'd give it just shy of three stars. WrestleMania X Ladder Match vs. Razor Ramon is ***** because at that time, it was something nobody had ever seen. XI vs. Diesel for the WWF Title won Match of the Year for a few places, however it was in a very down 1995. I personally prefer Diesel/Bret from Survivor Series '95 but still, another match that I'd put at ***3/4 XII he had the Iron Man match which isn't for everyone but is a classic that won match of the year at most places. Again, I don't fully agree, though it's about **** At XIV, his match with Austin was great and could've been better if he wasn't working with a destroyed back. ****1/4 or so. Then he retired but came back and had the greatest string of WrestleMania matches in history. At XIX he and Jericho possibly stole the show at one of the most stacked Manias ever. ****1/2 At WrestleMania XX he competed in the greatest Triple Threat main event ever in another match of the year from most people. That match is nearly flawless. ****3/4 maybe. At 21 he and Kurt Angle stole the show in yet, another match of the year candidate. An all around awesome match that would be about ****1/2. At 22, he had a better match than he probably should've with Vince McMahon. A fun brawl that comes in at about ***1/2 WrestleMania 23 he headlined again and had an awesome match with John Cena that made Chris Jericho want to return to wrestling. Could've been match of the year if they didn't best it on Raw later that year. ****1/4 WrestleMania 24 had the emotional Ric Flair retirement match that told a phenomenal story. ****1/2 And of course, WrestleManias 25 & 26 had the epics with The Undertaker in the two best matches 'Taker ever had at WrestleMania. Two different matches, but amazing nonetheless. I'd put 25 slightly above 26. All of this and more. Kev is never wrong 75% of the time.

He's a prime example of a guy who could make a broom look good, and he always brought his best at WrestleMania.

He got the term from stealing the show at every Mania he was at...win or lose. They mentioned it last night on WM Rewind so I am positive.

Could you imagine them calling Undertaker Mr. Wrestlemania? Or him calling himself Mr. Wrestlemania? They'd look like complete goobers because the name doesn't fit him at all.

Shawn Michaels is Mr. Wrestlemania because while he may not win all the time his Mania matches are consistently MOTY contenders. And if they aren't match of the year then they are at least the best matches in whoever his opponent's were career.

WrestleMania is seen as the 'Showcase of the Immortals' (a nickname in itself) and despite the win-loss percentage Michaels' performances at the bulk of his appearances have been incredible, and deservedly so he is 'Mr WrestleMania'.

From a factual stand point, it's because it's a great marketing name for a guy who is known to have a great match each year at the same event, just so called Wrestlemania.
From a wrestling fan stand point, I'll let Shawn explain this one.
"I will give you a show like you have never ever seen before.
Why?
Because I can."
