Meh, those banners aren't that good.

A long ass ing time ago I made banners, got the size specs from AJ and they were actually used for quite a while. Think the last person to use it was Ace during his National run. Wish I knew where the links for them were now though.

I just wrote a little story for my social media circle, and I thought you guys might enjoy it, given the content matter:
The other night, I tried explaining the appeal of professional wrestling in spite of a predetermined outcome to my wife. I'm pretty sure she wound up liking wrestling even less as a result, but it got me thinking about a couple of things, and so last night, as my WWE Network trial came to an end, I queued up the main event of Starrcade 1998.
My family was never much for the whole "spend the holidays together" thing, but for some reason in 1998, we wound up gathering for the holidays at one of my aunts houses. I used to like sitting and listening to my grampa's stories - he could go on and on and on in the most vivid detail (guess where I got THAT from), but he'd seen and done so much and to date remains one of the single most interesting people I've ever known. As such, as whatever we were doing that day went on, I wound up in the living room talking with him while everyone else went about whatever in the other room.
Out of the blue, following what I'm sure was another story about Korea or his reenactment group, he turns to me and says "Your father tells me you've been into wrestling again".
Unless you're able to gravitate toward like minded people who aren't completely devoid of social skills, I can't remember there ever being a time when it's been "easy" to be a fan of pro wrestling. Granted, there have been times when it permeated the mainstream to become slightly more acceptable, and even though that fire had been lit in '98, the mass appeal wasn't quite there yet. There was always someone who had something to say, and in spite of the fact that my grandfather never played much in the way of disciplinarian with me, I was certain I was about to hear it even from him. That's just kinda how it went for me back then. I probably sort of nodded with an affirmative mumble or something, internally prepping my mind to just deal with it and move on. You can get mad at a lot of people in life, but grampa was always sort of off limits, right?
Suffice to say, nothing could have prepared me for him to respond by asking me whether or not I thought Kevin Nash was going to end Goldberg's streak on Sunday.
Are you kidding me? What just happened?
My grandfather, who fought in the Second World War and Korea, registered voters in towb and spent his free time dressing in colonial garb and reenacting key battles of the American Revolution, just struck up a conversation that, until that day, I couldn't have shared with anybody but my brother or my best friend.
Try and tell me he isn't one of the coolest guys to have walked the face of this Earth.
At 13, I bought all the hype I was supposed to from the faces and booed the hell out of all the heels. The lines of kayfabe weren't quite clear to me - I knew "it was fake", but where thing began and ended were still kind of a blur. I swore up and down that Nash was "next" - no way Goldberg was going to lose. He beat everybody. He beat Hogan - on Nitro, no less! Goldberg was going to win - Nash didn't have a chance.
"It's going to be Nash. He's going to win. Just watch."
13 year old me couldn't comprehend why my grandfather thought Kevin Nash stood a chance against Goldberg. Goldberg was undefeated. The nWo was crumbling. He didn't have a shot in hell.
"He'll win 'cause they want him to. They want the belt back on Hogan."
I didn't know who "they" were - surely he couldn't mean the fans. Goldberg was incredibly over at the time. The nWo was old, played out, and tired. "They" didn't want Nash to win. "They" wanted Goldberg to win.
If you follow the story at all, you know what happens next. Scott Hall. Stun gun. The streak is over. Grampa was right. The next week on Nitro, Schiavone hands the WWF a ratings win on a silver platter, and Hogan and Nash pull "the fingerpoke of doom". I still didn't get it then. As years would go on, I'd come to understand where the lines were drawn between story and athleticism and the purpose of a writing staff, but it wasn't until this week, and trying to explain it to my wife, that it dawned on me.
I don't know why this all came to me this week, but it's a pretty awesome memory, and it really brought to light even more common ground that my grandfather and I shared, on top of our love for American history and the city of Boston and all that.
My grandfather wasn't just a fan. My grandfather was a "smark".
My grandfather was awesome.

CM PoorHe sounds like a bloody hero! Also as far as explaining wrestling's appeal even though it's pre-determined, I think this video does it pretty darn well, and even if it doesn't it's fun watching attractive girls play HHH, HBK et al.

I regret not using this for Schneider's final run: Are those new Joker Cards any good? I just came back to the first deck after a good 15 years (I'd never heard the Wraiths before this past week). I'm inclined to check 'em out, since I think ICP works best when they're sticking pretty hard to a gimmick (I've hated everything that wasn't on 5 out of the 6 Joker's Cards). Kinda weary about them going back to that well all the same. Thoughts?

So yeah... I'm jazzed to be the reigning, defending WFWF National Champion. Nearly 11 years after I won the International championship with Justin Tyme, that's gotta be some sort of record

Great Milenko and Riddlebox are definitely more my flavor. The Wraith is worth listening to if you're looking to blow a few hours though

Haven't really given the second a fair shake yet. Milenko and the Jeckels are probably my favorites, followed by Riddle Box, then Ringmaster. F*ck Carnival of Carnage though. Does nothing for me.

I think the current champions section needs to be updated Drakz and Rated R.

So... I went and saw Ringo Starr tonight and it was probably the second greatest night of my life after the night I saw Paul McCartney...

I am finding it difficult to think of anything Ringo Starr could have done to have entertained you? Was he doing a live narration of Thomas the Tank Engine?

The key to Ringo Starr's entertaining factor stems from the fact that he steps out on to the stage each and every night and isn't Paul McCartney John Lennon > George Harrison > Ringo Star > Paul McCartney Belie' 'dat

Like him or not, in his prime McCartney was an excellent talent. The fact that he went on to do Wings and other drivel as well as aging like an anemic lesbian can't take away the fact that he wrote some beautiful music once upon a time.
