Forget Rude, Ax looks awesome in that mold!

If they would of done the rude that way it would of made that figure so much better. Same with Jake, and even Flair, IMO. I was highly disappointed with how those three turned out.

Jake's figure was awesome IMO, but he would have seemed more menacing if he looked closer to the drawing. It definitely matches his demeanor as a heel!

Funny how much changed in the first series with those few wrestlers. Rude's lower body especially looks more like how he was built. Ax got the Crush mold and that would have made a decapitation cooler but I think the Ax released was more of his build. Bossman's arms for the released figured seem to thin for how big the Bossman was in 1990. The sketch looks about right.
I do wonder why the black suit Dibiase was released before the green as green was his color before the black with gold trim. Perhaps it was a case of the outfit he was wearing at the time. Another curiosity is the ad with six wrestlers in a larger looking ring and a drawing underneath had the green suit body as the drawing.

Is there any sketch of Adam Bomb? I realized that his cartoon on the card-back has the Greg Valentine left arm: oi6.tinypic.com/27y1mhh.jpgSorry if this isn't new, which i suppose...

looks like they made Ax's body, it got vetoed, they made a new Ax body and then used the original one for Crush. Very interesting that Ax & Smash singles were supposed to come with helmets. Have to wonder why that was scrapped.
What the hell happened to Rude? That sketch is great. The finished product was awful.

Why? Typhoon, Bulldog, Jake Roberts, Rick Rude, Ricky Steamboat, Sid, & The Steiners had all jumped ship. Jake, Rude, & Bulldog were bridges burnt too. Warrior had burnt his bridge BAD but he's listed. Texas Tornado had KILLED HIMSELF by this point and was all sorts of bad press for WWE but he's listed. Why isn't Flair? And why are The Headshrinker, Demolition, The Steiners listed as teams when they were packed that way? Demolition's listing has to be for Ax & Smash, since Crush is listed right below. Why IS Crush listed there, when none of the other green cards are? Why doesn't he have a cartoon? So many questions

Never even took a look at the list but it's very interesting! It's a sample and i don't have a printed one so there might be a difference, at least on the cartoon on the back. The list is kind of a mystery with not having Flair on it.

All of those card backs were borked. After the first few (by few I mean one and two) series there were all kinds of disorganized and messed up.

Greg Valentine and Nailz aren't on the list either.. Nailz makes sense. Valentine is a TOTAL mystery, because at the time of the green cards HE WAS WORKING FOR WWF! He was one of Michaels' Survivor Series knights at 1993 Survivor Series, which is roughly when the green cards are based off of.

Have to wonder why that was scrapped. I thought that the Ax sketch was for the Demolition Tag Team set, but due to Ax being replaced by Crush his figure was also changed to Crush. Bit of a shame they used the same figure for Smash. Edit: I've just looked at the sketch again and there is a bit that says: HEAD. Use existing head from last year, but tilt head slightly as shown in drawing.

The Jake legs from that sketch looks similar to the Papa Shango legs.I've always thought that the Shango was an odd kind of figure. The tanktop isn't molded on.I wonder if that was because of the tattoos it would be easier to stamp them on without the tanktop being molded on?

I'd love to see a How Did This Get Made on the Hasbros.

It would have been cool if there was video shot of the sculptors while they were working and also the assembly line pushing out figs.

The strangest thing about Shango was BLUE tattoos. They did similarly silly thing to Bam Bam with a blue head tattoo and black arm tattoos.
The Rude had a lot of potential but failed. The pants were in the style of early to mid 1988 (prior to when he went with the full time air brush) but they weren't the exact same. The LJN got it right with the multi colors of pink and purple.
Hasbro could have done the Rick Rude face on the light green tights (Royal Rumble) if they didn't want to do a customized, possibly out of date outfit like for an opponent like Warrior.
