Stolen prototypes end up on E Bay quite a bit. And then people buy em. That's all.
Don't know why nobody else couldn't just say that.

No an unreleased prototype is a figure Mattel made, but never released.

I thought prototypes weren't allowed to be talked about due to these things being stolen from Mattel factories?

A prototype is a prototype, a custom is a custom. A prototype wasa figure in production I guess. A custom is a "fan" made figure I guess you could say.
