Went to Walmart today to get some food and jeans.. I always go by the toys to see if I can find anything cheap and cool for my nieces. wandered by the WWE figures to find massive stocking. Fresh elite cases, tons of basics.. tons of the new t-shirt line.. tons of gimmicky stuff. I considered getting the new Shawn Michaels.. and then a basics CM Punk.. but was totally thrown off by the price. can't believe how expensive figures are these days, or how anyone affords to collect. "BACK IN MY DAY" I could walk into a KB with $10 and walk out with 3 figures.. It was $10+ for one BASIC.. This was $18 and change for one figure. I couldn't afford to buy these for myself.. But I sent my friend a text, bitching about the prices.. Mentioned they had Liz. He told me to pick it up. Here's a picture so this isn't a pointless rant.

You think $10 is expensive for a basic? we pay £9.99 in the UK at retail so whats that in dollars? $16-17?

i do remember collecting BCAs and TTLs and they were around $6. When the RA series came out, locally prices were up to around $7-10. i stopped collecting for a bit when the DA series was getting its start; i remember they were $12-15 and i really hated them.
i check retail every now and again, VERY rarely, and the last time i was at my local WalMart the basics were priced at $9.98 and the elites were something like $13.98.
and lets think about it, the basic line is essentially an improved TTL figure, so if you take into account the "economy factor", id say prices are still pretty fair. i have seen some retail stores gouge a bit-kohls sells basics for $14.99 elites are $29.99 or $25.99
If you shop online, then you have reason to bitch about the prices. generally new/in demand elites are $20 and if you took a time machine back to when E16 released, Kevin Nash Outsider was worth $160+ at one time.

KB did have 3/$10 deals on clearance figures.. I only started to collect towards CS12... i think prices were $11.99 or something for a classic and $9.99 for an RA... so compared to the mattel lines now, it's not that bad..

End result it balances out, but it's always fun to complain how you get shafted right? lol for the original poster what did you expect to get your nieces if $18 for Liz was too much for you? Not being a prick it's a serious question. I am intrigued

We also have a 20% tax on every single thing we buy. List more comparisons.

I remember when gas was $1 a gallon. I remember when it was under $1 per gallon. I would fill up my Chevelle's tank for under $20. Now $40 gives me half a tank on my truck. lol

I never remember being able to go to a store and get 3 figures for $10 dollars. When I was around 10 you could get a G.I.Joe figure for under $3, but that was a little over 25 years ago. I don't recall ever finding a wrestling figure for under $7. When the Jakks BCA figs came out in 96 they were price pointed @ around $7 where I lived.

Rite Aid's bad too - $14.99 for Basics. And sometimes they have Basics that I missed the first time, so it's tempting... but still too much for Basics.
I'll stick to taking my chances with Big Lots....
And I'm counting the days until K Mart's next clearance sale!
