Hey guys,
For those with long memories, you'll probably recall the meaning behind the subject title. For those who don't, Droz/D'Lo had a match about 1 and a bit years into Droz's career where the "sky high" finisher from D'Lo was not correctly executed and/or a fall that was bad enough from Droz to render him paralised (paralyzed) and unable to walk ever again, stricken to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
I was watching a Kayfabe Commentaries with Sean Morley (Val Venis) that went through 1.5 hrs of the 1999 year in review where this incident was mentioned. I checked a Shootamania video out on youtube where D'Lo talked about it and he said "we agreed neither of us would watch the tape" - which brings to light the fact there IS a tape. This is a house show tape right? The fact there is a tape must mean its sitting somewhere or it had beenleaked previously? I'm having trouble finding it and wonder if anyone here had any idea about it, or that it even existed in the wider community?
Cheers

My brother said that he saw still pictures of it on youtube, I refused to watch it as I can't stand to see that sort of thing.
The video has since been removed. It was a smackdown taping, and obviously they cut the match when they showed the smackdown on TV.

Though I just dont get how someone can get in such a position when the move is as simple as this:

I heard he was going for a powerbomb of some sort and because Droz was wearing baggy t-shirt, he didn't have a proper grip.
There's a series of Off the air footage on Youtube where the guy used to hang outside the arenas with a dish antenna to track the signal being passed to the production truck. He's probably the only the only person close to having footage if it exists outside of the WWE

Or because he was going for a RUNNING POWERBOMB more to the point, but hey.

These are the two things that Droz says on his shoot interview with RF Video.

D'Lo wasn't doing the Sky High.
He was giving him a running powerbomb when he slipped and dropped Droz on his head.

I was actually at this show and unfortunately saw this whole thing unfold live. It was a Smackdown/Heat taping. D-Lo was going for the running powerbomb and dropped Droz. Then IIRC, D-Lo lost his balance and fell (after dropping him) so all of his weight went on Droz too. I knew something was wrong the moment it happened. I remember D-Lo freaking out and Albert coming out to see what was happening. I remember being very uncomfortable sitting there hoping everything was okay as getting him strechered out and making sure everything was ok took upwards from 30 minutes to an hour. I didn't find out how bad Droz was hurt until the next day, but you kind of figured beacause he never moved. They cut the taping short and went right to the main event of Smackdown. If you watch that episode you will notice that some of the matches taped for Heat were aired as Smackdown matches. The one I remember specifically was Big Show v. Big Bossman. And for those that think some fans are disrespectful, you should have heard some of the things people were yelling at Droz and the paramedics when they were tending to him.

Thanks for sharing this first hand account. Yes, some wrestling fans were pathetic during this era. I remember people heckling Bret when he was giving his in ring speech after Owen's death. Brain dead idiots.

I'm sure its still lurking round in one of the Botchamania's No, he stated before that he wouldn't ever show the Droz match, or a few others like anything from the Owen Hart match or I think he even said Sid's leg break.

When you first said "a year or so" into Droz's career, I thought "no way that could be true," and I had to go back and look, but you were right! I must have started getting into wrestling shortly after Droz debuted because to me he seemed like an established talent. (I started watching late 98-early 99). Anyways, I don't remember how great his wrestling skills were (and I doubt it mattered to 10-year old me), but I do remember being entertained by him. And always a bummer to see something like that happen.

I remember back when D'Lo used to do the running powerbomb, it always looked dangerous and sloppy, and I was worried somebody was going to get hurt someday. And when Droz did get hurt, it really sucked but it didn't come as a shock at all.
The stuff about the loose t-shirt or a drink in the ring, I don't think any of that was to blame. It was just a sloppy move that sadly went wrong and screwed up one guy's body and another guy's head - sucks all around.
