At TRU yes. RA's were 10 bucks compared to the 12 dollar basics. I also think DA's were 12-13 dollars if I remember correctly.

absolutely
when i re-started collecting in 2007, RAs were $7.99, 2 Packs- $14.99, DA- $10.99, Classic- $9.99.
Slowly everything went up by $2.00 before Jakks was done.

Gas, Milk and Bread were also cheaper back then too.
I know some people have said "Paying that price for a Mattel figure is stupid, Jakks were $X cheaper".......well welcome to the real world...where nothing is going to be priced the same year after year.

From 2007 gas has gone up around 60 cents, milk 40 cents and bread is the same unless you buy a premium blend or specially produced variety. Stop complaining like the price increases are that back breaking.

I make enough to pay for gas, milk bread and wrestling figures.....I was just pointing out those people who DO complain about how Jakks figures cost less then Mattel figures.

BCAs were $5, TTLs were $6 and moved up to $7, I think R3's were $7-8(?), and then RAs were $8, then moved up to $10 over time. CS figures were usually between $12 and $14 depending on where you went. DAs were around $12 , as well. Hard to believe we used to be able to get a 4-pack of figures for only $20, isn't it?
Part of the increase is due to Jakks' figures recycling a lot of the same parts, along with the occasional deco "cost-cutting" measure, and part of it is obviously due to technological advancements in the figures and the rise of soft goods/plastic costs. Mattel are way more generous with paint apps and making new molds than Jakks were/are (they've done good with paint jobs for TNA, overall), so that adds to it, too. They've manged to keep the TNA figures (DA) at the $10 pricepoint, which is insanely low if you look at similarly priced figures on the market. Most people aren't making the 6"-7" style anymore. I imagine using mostly the same molds and TNA not being as heavy of a license has to do with that. I think they also switched to a more affordable plastic towards the end of their WWE tenure. Plus to all this, Jakks were making figures during the attitude era - back when TRU had an entire huge aisle dedicated to just ECW/WCW/WWF figures. The market was huge then.
But yeah, it's numerous things that raise cost. They also have to make profit, of course.

Back in the day I used to spend 2.97 on a GI Joe. Nowadays a GI Joe figure goes for around 10 bucks. I know that Marvel Legends figures used to go for 9 bucks but now they're around 15. So considering that most toys have gone up in price the past few years, I feel Mattel's WWE figures are fairly priced.
Now if we were getting shoddy figures with less detail then my opinion would most likely be different. But so far so good with Mattel.

Yes back in the day the original RAs were like 6-7 bucks at walmart. They ended up going up to 8 or so in the later years. Classic figures were considered preimium figures and started at 9.99. They went up to about 13 towards the end. Two packs were typically a deal and were cheeper than 2 sepearte figures. I think deluxe figs started at 9.99 when first released as well. Jacks was much more affordable. I miss those days. And there wre more stores carying them. Oh how i miss KB

I think Mattel's are resonably priced for what they are. Now when a retialer like Target charges $19.99 for a Batman Legacy figures, that is just them being greedy. If you run into overly priced WWE Figs it might be the retialer themselves being a bunch of A holes.
I stopped collecting WWE/Wrestling figures around when the R3's started to hit shelves. I then picked back up in 2006 with DA and Classic Deluxe.
I now collect Elites, FB's, and Legends while I'll buy occasional Basics for Divas and better Head scans for swapping.
The DA's were nice but in many way very cheap in quality since there were only about "x" amount of torso molds and the scales of each guy were awful. NTM certain guys didn't get made in this line due to Jakks not willing to tool new parts. So in the end when Elites hit the market at $14.99 I was glad to pay that price increase since the detail, tooling, paint apps, scale, and accessories where much nicer and I was already used to spending near that much for DCUCs. I kind of expected higher prices from the get go.
I loved DA's but let's be honest... Triple H's sledge hammer was really lame, although it made a nice add on to my Joker figure, and did we really need an exploding apple barrel. Elites are much better, but I do miss getting the occasional table, ladder, or chair but we are getting there. Jakks made better tables anyway.
The Classic Deluxe figures were $14.99 so Mattel's $14.99 Legends didn't scare me at all. I really liked how we got ringskirts, and painted belts with the CDs but in some ways the figures themselves were a little subpar. The Rock having black wrist tape (wtf?) and inaccurate boots, Jake "The Snake" Roberts suffering from a major case of baloon head, and Undertaker not coming with a coat. NTM the line grew really weak really fast. I mean Buff Bagwell, really? No Ulitmate Warrior, really? I welcomed Legends with open arms. The ringskirts were cool and I think Mattel's ahould have done something similar to give more incentive for retialers to want ESRs in their stores.
I am sure if Legends continued they would be $16.99 and the only reason TNA figures are cheap is because they are much easier to produce and Jakks doesn't include as much accessories as they used to.

Jakks were cheaper in every way from price to overall quality. The price stayed the same when Mattel took over from what I remember but the prices have soared since then. But it's a DAMN good trade off when you look at the quality of the product now. Seeing as Mattel has scale, varied body types, and accurate ring attire I have to say that the price increase has actually been warranted while the only problems are selection and availability (and swaps).

Yes Jakks was MUCH more afordable than Mattel is now. Plus Jakks usually always gave you accessories and or a title belt with every figure.
I can remember finding Jakks RA figures for 6.99 and the classics were 9.99 The deluxe started out at around 11.99 to 13.99.
Now though with mattel figures cost twice as much, you get no accesories usually, and title belts are very few and far between. But it's ok cause Mattel makes them to "scale" and uses considerably less plastic on the figures.
Mattel as a whole charges more for everything they make. Just go to the toy store, look at Mattel made products, then look to the side, there is something more affordable next to mattel but made from a dif company.

Okay, so I entered $7.99 in 2007 into an inflation calculator and it came back as $8.83. Now that does not consider the prices fluctuating at different retailers based on the cost they have for overhead, minimum wage rising, the cost of the product at wholesale, etc. etc. ToysRus is a failing company, of course the price will be higher there. Remember when KB was in it's Twilight years? A $9.99 Marvel Legend at another retailer would be $13.99-14.99 at KB.
And if one more person says something about the scale not being perfect... IT'S NOT THE FACT THAT THE SCALE IS PERFECT THAT WE LIKE, IT'S THAT IT'S APPROXIMATELY CORRECT AND A MUCH LESS HALF-ASS EFFORT THAN JAKKS. Let me tell you, I love my DA Rey Mysterio standing face to face with everyone else. And I love half-painted tights, and everybody having the same 3 bodies. You get what you paid for back then, and now.
