Hello WF. I recently got a B18 CM Punk via WWEshop and I have to say his head scan is awsome. There was one major problem though... Terrible paint apps. Like E14 The Rock, he suffered from misplaced eyebrows. Bad enough that his eyebrows were painted above the eyebrow sculpt but they were also too thick. Also his beard is textured very nicely but was heavily painted. I corrected these issues and I have to say I have major love for my CM Punk figure. He went from a 7 to a 10. Here is my fix up (I know, this is a cheap way to show off my customizing skills) on his headscan and I think most of you will agree it is 10 times better looking that it was before. I removed his eyebrows and beard repainted the eyebrows to where they should be, and I drybrushed his beard. Swaped heads with my E11 and now I feel like I purchased a whole new figure. NTM my daughter is happy to have her own CM Punk figure with the left overs. Now this makes me wonder, how many headscans are floating around out there that have great potential but due to poor paint apps it makes a scan look less than stellar? DDP comes to mind. Anywho, I am very happy with my upgraded CM Punk. Since his E16 is very close looking to what I already have right now that figure will be an easy pass for me. I just need to hit up Ralph's one of these days. Whoelse's headscan suffers from poor paint apps?

I guess Rock e16 could count. Although I think his problem isn't so much the paint so much as the fact its not sculpted.

This true.....a lot of the Mattel scans aren't as bad as they look, but Mattel paints some of them so horribly that it makes the face look nothing like the actual wrestler.

^^ I know I also got B18 Kelly Kelly with my Punk and again, nice figure, but lacking any real detail. I have to admit, Jakks did better with the heads but the bodies were awful.

YES! I've been saying the same thing since the first time i saw that head sculpt; to be honest i was waiting for someone to re-paint the eyebrows, and you did a great job! The head definitely does look MUCH better. Btw, was it easy to remove the paint from the eyebrows? Most of the Mattel heads I've re-painted have eyebrows that come off with a lil' soap and water, was punk the same? once again, great job!

It works really good, hardly takes any effort, and doesn't effect the plastic. I wouldn't recommend using it on the torso, or pelvis of figures. If your going to use it, take the figure apart first. You don't want this stuff removing paint from an area your not looking to remove paint from. I accidentally removed some of Punks chest and left arm Tattoo on the basic body. Luckily my daughter hardly noticed.

Wow, that looks a lot better than the original. Goes to show a bit of paint can make a huge improvement. Like mentioned above, got any better pics?

I noticed the eyebrow epidemic the moment I got the Punk figure. And it seems to pop up every once in a while. Like on the new Hornswoggle... Kinda looks like Uncle Leo from Seinfeld... Perfectly good scans ruined by quick paint jobs =

I think the paint makes the figure, most figures have amazing scans, but they look plain due to solid skin colours and lack of detail.

To be fair, though, you took that single head scan, you repainted it by hand and hit every detail in the scan.
Mattel clearly don't have the resources to hand paint every single head and even if they did, the costs would increase and the price of the figures would sky rocket, which certainly wouldn't please anybody.
It personally doesn't bother me at all, but if it does, it doesn't take much effort to find paint and have a go at it yourself.

You are right about this, but you have to admit there is no reason to have a scuplt like DDP's painted in the wrong colors. If they want to skimp on details like paint washes to hair, that is fine, but what is with the ginger goatee and eyebrows.

I noticed several of the new short haired Ziggler figures from both E13 and B17 have the eyebrows painted way above where it should be, and the eyebrows are painted heavy on them. The scan, barring the hair length, is the same as the B10/Champions Ziggler, which had the eyebrows painted darker, thinner, and on the sculpted lines. I passed on Ziggler about 5-6 times in Elite 13 until I found one where the eyebrows were lower.
Little details do it for me, too. The good Morrison scan (E10, TLC, B12, B13, WM XXVII, all vary widely if you look at them. The eyebrows on some are knit, and on others are up, which match the wrinkles on his forehead better, as well as his general demeanor. Also, the way they painted the beard as individual strokes on the Elite looks way better than the solid clump, and are perfect for a guy who has a close-shaven stubble beard.
Same goes for Triple-H's first scan. It got used a dozen or so times and each one was drastically different. His first Elite, for instance, had that lemon yellow color to it that brought down an otherwise good scan. That was corrected on the WM XXVI release. The BOPPV had that terrible beard that went all the way to his lips, and the Wrestlemania Heritage 2 HHH had the paint dropped out of the chin for a handlebar mustache that looked poor as a result. And Signature Series 1 has practically invisible eyebrows.
Royal Rumble Heritage Christian looks kind of weird with the sculpted stubble, but no paint.
The other thing I noticed was how the first year figures had painted lips on a lot of them. I understand that this was a cost-cutting measure and I don't miss it that much, but it did make some of the figures pop, like Ezekiel Jackson, R-Truth, E3 Christian (the inside of his mouth was painted but not on E11) Rey Mysterio, and so on.

Tell me about it. I had to wait on Evan Bourne's newer figures over and over again to find one who didn't have a wandering eye. I usually buy at retail, but even that can be frustrating if someone is short packed and scalped a lot. My B6 Kelly Kelly is the only Diva I have with a really good paintjob. The worst is when you buy at retail, but they put the sunglasses on the toy in the box. My E14 Rock is cross-eyed, and I bought E10 John Morrison twice because the first one looked like Sloth from the goonies when I took the sunglasses off. I ended up using that one for a fix-up and just bit the bullet and got another one, because it looked just bad enough to really bug me.
