since nobody seems to have seen this in my "elite collection" thread...i'll just re-post found this in an old Mattel Q+A (on this site). "Re: ASK MATTEL YOUR WWE LINE QUESTIONS! 11/30 Post by derreckn24 on Nov 30, 2011, 6:32pm
-Since Mattel has rights to the He-Man IP, is there any chance of a Kofi Kingston in his He-Man Battle Cat Attire (Basic or Elite) from Night Of Champions 2011? We love this outfit so we are saving it for next Elite Kofi figure when we do one."He actually wore the green He-Man BattleCat attire when he was in Air Boom. So it will match the Elite 15 Evan Bourne.

I don't understand why they couldn't do any of his attires. They're inspired, they're not directly ripping the art from it - there are countless t-shirt sites online, some of which are pretty major, and they have "inspired" art from all sorts of things. Kofi uses his own logo and borrows the basic motif from something.
Jakks made CM Punk's Chicago Cubs attire, and that thing had the Cubs C logo on it and all!
EDIT: Hmm, I guess Hasbro being a bit of competition might explain it. I just remembered they had the Marvel license.

I would love to see either of his Stay Puft or Riddle attires get made. I'm a very big fan of the Stay Puft attire in particular. I'll definitely be grabbing his Battle Cat Elite in E17.

I much rather see a Kofi in every other series instead of Mysterio and Orton. Very cool and colorful attires.

Wow, what a cool thread! I like kofi and his colorful attires, noticed riddler and stormtrooper before, but not all the rest! And I even have a carnage tattoo! Would love that figure! I agree they should make more of him, which license they are allowed to anyway, and cut back on cena and ortons!

they can legally make everything but the Carnage or Stormtrooper ones.
they own the rights to DC comics, He-Man and Ghostbusters as Mattel makes all there figures

I guess I just wasn't paying close attention. lol... cause I didn't even think about the fact that that attire was based on Robin.

wow I've never seen him in that Carnage gear that is awesome, so are the Sinestro ones
i'm on the fence about the Battle Cat attire, on one hand i want him to match Evan Bourne and on the other I could care less for He-man and would much rather have the Stay Puft gear, oh well

If they can do a Marvel attire for Kofi, WHY CAN'T WE HAVE CAPTAIN AMERICA REY? ?

I love all the comic characters Kofi has used in his attire, specially Sinestro and The Riddler. When did he use that Carnage attire?

they can legally make everything but the Carnage or Stormtrooper ones. they own the rights to DC comics, He-Man and Ghostbusters as Mattel makes all there figures No, they own the licenses for DC & Ghostbusters. So, they would still need permission to do the tights. However, working with them does mean that they can most likely get those permissions (like Flash Rey). They had the license for Avatar as well, which is also why they were able to get that Rey out. Just because they have the license, doesnt mean they can automatically do what they want. They flat out own He-Man & Masters of the Universe, so they can do Battle Cat with no issues (which they are going to do).

well obviously they can't just do whatever they want.
but they have working agreements w/ all of them. I guess they OWN He-man....i dont know. I know there isn't a He-Man attire out yet.
But there is a Flash Rey and a Slimer Kofi. So getting permission seems to be a non-issue
