Motion picture cameras were first invented in 1888, so while unlikely, it is possible the Ed Lewis match WAS recorded by some form of video equipment 28 years later.

How could Ed Strngler Lewis be recorded in 1916? No video equipment, much less a tv. Lol, I had heard about this just yesterday, wonder what they did for that long? headlocks...that says it all

Why anybody would want to work for 7 1/2 hours is beyond me. Somehow it was pulled off I guess.
I can't understand how you could have match that lasts 7 hours. Surely by about the second hour you'd just be repeating what you had already done? And was there a crowd for this?
Hell, If I would be tired just wrestling a hour. Wrestling seven hours straight is just calling for suicide.

I really am at a loss for words. This is one of the dumbest things I've ever witnessed honestly. Whoever thought this was a good idea must be severely out of touch with reality. Also, nothing says class two guys wrestling in a backyard with t shirts on for 7 hours.

How could Ed Strngler Lewis be recorded in 1916? No video equipment, much less a tv. -- Back then, you didn't need technology, all you needed was a reporter & his notebook for the latest "Scoop" (as wrestling results were common in 'Sports' sections of newspapers across America at that time). As far as this match goes, bravo to their endurance ability. However, this match's sole purpose was to outrun the time of the Lewis/Stetcher match and set a new record -- I'm not impressed with that. To me, it was done for shock-value, nothing more, and that's what makes it very difficult to respect.

Hey everyone, 1st off I am the same Cordova that completed this match. I was googling rockstar cordova vs jaysin strife to see if the word has gotton around and if its being talked about. I am not going to defend or support any criticisms or opinions of it because my honest intention is to clarify a couple things and leave it at that. 1) The match from 1880 was a greco-roman wrestler and he was wrestling that style of match . 2) Ed Lewis and Joe Stetcher was the original record we found to be the version of wrestling we considered to be in the line of the wrestling category that has evolved how we see it as today. 3) What sparked me to reply....We are not backyarders. Both myself and Jaysin Strife are properly trained workers who came from legitimate wrestling schools and have earned our spots in this business. Speaking for myself I was trained by Jesse Hernandez and Bill Anderson at the School of Hard Knocks in San Bernadino, California. We started wrestling with shirts off but because it was outside as night fell, the area we were in was dropping in temps down to the 40-50's. So we put shirts on to keep warm. 4) Why were we in a backyard? Originally this show was set to be on Dec 18th but when we got word about a 6 and a half hour match on wrestling record by wrestling historian Mike Chapman and we bumped the time up to 7hrs , the venue was going to charge a few hundred dollars extra for the extra block of time. (remember this show was set up free to the public) Epic War runs an online show and would like to make their events free since the show is taped for TV. (we are aired in Oregon on their local station) Plus we have Epic War 365 where we release a new vid online everyday for the rest of the year of 2011 on www.artoverlifestudios.com *cheap plug* This is simply done for the fact the dvd business model really doesnt work anymore when everything can be found online for free. .....anyways back to the why in the backyard.....So we moved it to another venue and another date, jan 8th. The place we went to which i will not name, in the couple days prior to the show said they wanted extra insurance due to the 'unique nature of the event. ' It was then Epic War said we can't keep delaying this so in an emergency decision, he opted for his backyard. The reason this wole thing came up was just out of casual conversation. Then discussion became curiosity and curiosity lead to research and when Ed Lewis and Joe Stetcher were found to be the longest match, it was then fired up into a full blown decision to carry through this attempt. When I got involved, it was then found that Guiness does not hold any wrestling records what so ever EXCEPT an Olympic wrestling record that went 11+ hours. Regardless, we were going to set a new record for modern day professional wrestling and that is what is going to show up in Guiness after they get our footage to review and confirm (yes I know its not set and they can very well deny it but dammnit im tryin to be positive.) Were there alot of rest holds, yes, and there were wear down holds and action and a whole gambit of moves. We had various people who saw it all 7 hours and they were workers or promoters in the business and they said it was entertaining and not boring at all. Of course to each their own and when it gets put online for the world to watch, its not going to be everyone's cup of tea. Thats fine, no matter what anyone says or how they feel about this event, WE ARE the holders of the record for the ONLY 7 hour Ironman match. I am proud of what we did and to say we did what no one else has done or yet to do, I am on cloud 9. It's cool that not everyone is going to agree and you are gonna criticize my remarks probably and insult me as well. I can handle it, I just felt the need to clarify because in all honesty, I took offense to the backyard comment. I hope this cleared things up and if you want to ask questions or have comments I am open to hear them by private message here or on my Facebook. www.facebook.com/rockstarcordova or twitter www.twitter.com/rockstarcordova I am an open and honest laidback kat so if you wanna message me and say i suck or wanna share somethin positive then im cool with it.

Have to wonder: Seven hours is roughly, what, 21 regular 20-minute matches? Did these guys get paid 21 times their normal going rate, or did they take the pay hit just to say they wrestled longer than anybody else (that we know of)?
