Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter
Shawn Michaels has been telling friends as of late he plans on retiring at WrestleMania. His contract is set to expire soon and he has talked about wanting to spend more time with his children as they grow up.
Michaels himself has made noise about retiring in recent years, to the point that WWE actually scripted jokes about it on Raw. After taking time off in 2008, he made noise about deciding not to come back. Like previous times he'd taken time off, WWE would call him back to return and he would. He also said in a radio interview last year that he had told the company his retirement date (which at the time was this year's WrestleMania). On the other hand, he's brought up the idea of wrestling well into his fifties, though only a match or two per year. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well there goes any suspense that remained for the WM match. I'm sure shawn will be back eventually on a limited basis but no way is he going over taker now

My guess is he'll lose to Taker (pretty obvious) and return around whatever November's PPV is called now to begin a feud with Triple H, which will last into 'Mania. Shawn will get the win there and will call it a career. Might as well end it on a high note and not after a desperation grudge match against Undertaker.

I agree, the only thing I'd change is have Triple H go over. I always kind of thought it was good to retire with a losing effort (Austin, Flair etc...), don't know where I got that idea from, just kind of like it like that.

Yeah, but then HBK would have lost at the previous three WrestleManias, making his overall record at the PPV pitifully poor. I don't think Triple H gains anything from going over. Nor does Shawn, really, but at least he can end his career on a high note, you know?

That probably would be a good way to go out for Shawn. Either way, I want to see these two go at it for Shawn's last match. I know people are tired of them from 2002-2004 but it's not like they have wrestled anytime recently, and they always have put on amazing matches anyway, add the fact that they are best friends and it's a great way to end a career.

He could still go over at WM, and then retire anyway. Nevertheless, as I've said, I see him becoming Commissioner/GM at some point, then eventually returning to wrestling again, just like he did after his 98-02 retirement.

Might be looking to into this but for some odd reason I could see this being a total swerve. Shawn said on a radio station he plans on retiring soon...something doesn't add up. I don't see why he'd spoil a match result. Hoping for a swerve here.

I think the whole "Mr. Wrestlemania" name is for his performances, not the record. All his losses at Mania are generally the more remembered matches.
Anyway, yeah, I figured HBK would retire soon, and if he can out do last years WrestleMania, then that's the best possible way anyone can go out.

oh so because the Observer said it to be, it must be so? The Wrestling Observer is not the bible. If you actually read that whole little paragraph...here's what it really said - HBK has been telling "friends" he wants to retire - He's been talking about retiring for the last couple of years - But he's also talked about wrestling on a very limited schedule into his 50's None of us know what HBK wants to do with his life. I don't think he is going to just quietly walk away from the business after losing to the Undertaker (if he does) If anything I could see him taking an extended break period (longer than just until Summerslam) and possibly coming back for some big matches later this year or early next year. Can we all just freakin' WAIT for Wrestlemania instead of trying to draw conclusions 10 days before it based on what the Observer said? ?

I'm still sad cos it looks like he's going to take an extended break which means i won't see him at Summerslam

I'm not really surprised by this. If I had to guess he'll be back for a match at next years Mania.

I don't get it.
In storyline terms, if he loses, Then his career ends right?
Then why is everyone acting as if he'd just come back a few months later to randomly feud with HHH?

While I hope he doesn't really retire any time soon, he's not winning the match.

Are f'n kidding me? Spend more time w/ his kids? He's on the f'n road 1 day a week! 2 w/ a Paperview.
Give me a f'n break and use a better excuse than that. Admit it. You're too old, too weak, and look like you're in the begining stages of MS.
The HBK I knew and loved has been retired since 1998.

paperview? Seriously?
And he doesn't just work "1 day a week". He does house shows as well.
Maybe we should think and research before we post next time, huh?
