I believe I got my painted chest Steele in a lot of figures at a flea market for $10. Think Ax was in the lot too if I remember correctly so I didn't pay really anything for it. None of the others were painted in the lot even the ones I didn't buy so its hard to believe he was the only one, but until I see otherwise I do not believe its legit. Just nice to have

The site mentioned shows the Hairy Chest Steele version in the
heading immediately above the prototype. It is shown with the regular one. It is the same as the one I and several others have posted. That is why I think it was produced, albeit in small numbers.

That is why I think it was produced, albeit in small numbers. The one you have pictured though is different. Yours has Black hair while the pic on the website is brownish. I've seen countless of each on ebay, actually someone is selling a custom for 4.99US right now. Until I see a MOC I'll believe it is just a prototype and never produced. And even then i'm skeptical since you can paint it and reseal a regular George figure. Which has also appeared on ebay several times over the years with a new story each time as to where it was found. My belief is LJN never released one and decided it wasn;t worth the time to paint the hair since the paint wore off these figures so easily anyways. |

Just understand i'm not trying to bash anyone here. It is just my opinion that it wouldn't be worth it to shell out big bucks for the George Steele with Hair when there are so many con-artists out there passing off crap as a rare collectible.
Just ask me how many time I thought I was getting a Bearded Kirchner for a good price to see that the paint just rubs off when I get it home.

yea its a shame there is so many people out there to con people. But LJN figures can always be skeptical for variations due to so many being out there and people just finding ones that others painted. Its always hard to tell if its legit or not. I do not think my steele is the real deal til someone proves it exists and what it looks like. I will try taking a pic of mine tomorrow and post it.

I am not looking to stir up trouble either, but if you will refer to my photos posted on 1/13, the figure I posted has a chocolate brown, not black chest hair and looks like the one shown above.
I just think there was a minimal amount of the chest hair ones made. Maybe Steele did not like it like the discussion earlier this week about the Galoob Arn Anderson bald spot and had them change it once it was out there. If it is a fake, someone took alot of time and had talent enough to do it properly to get it to look like that photo. We may never know the true ansewr until one
legitimate carded one shows and then the argument will be about whether the packaging was tampered with or not.
Either way, I think it is a great figure and I am glad it is part of my collection.

Still looks a lot darker than the other one though in my opinion and the area that is painted is different too. I do a lot of custom LJNs and to tell you the truth its not too hard to do that paint job on the George Steele. However it is a unique piece to add to your collection and until proven 100% otherwise you should enjoy it!! Well to quote Ron Burgundy "We'll agree to Disagree then" lol Hopefully one day all the LJN questions will be answerred. In the mean time it gives us all something to discuss. lamby23 |

Lamby23, there is no need to apologize. It may have been the light I was using in the room that makes it look darker. I take the photos with the figures on the floor and lights sitting on end tables off to the side. Sometimes there is glare, sometimes not.
Sometimes things do not look the same in the photos as they do
on the desk or table.
