but it is painted silver.....so how is it 'un-painted'? ....it looks sprayed silver, but i think its just the camera, looks like an unpainted figure if its in the same plastic as a regular uk luger, great figure!

Ok, don't hate/smite me but ... if you were to wipe of the majority of the paint with acetone chances are that the silver paint being the other dominant color would kind of mix into the black plastic that the figure is molded in. The acetone would mar the finish so to speak of the black and kind of smear the silver metallic onto the black in the process . Th figure is black molded and I think someone stripped it . I could be wrong though .

It's a very very neat job if someone has stripped the paint off. There are no residues in the nooks and crannies. The specs of silver and pink are actually dust that have wiped straight off. I'll give you $50 if you can acetone one as neat as this.

Im sure you can just leave it in a container of break fluid for a few hours/days and the paint will drip straight off without causing any damage to the figure. I believe it would take around a week of soaking in the fluid before the figure becomes damaged. This always works well too... www.ffurg.com/painting/removing_hasbropaint.htm

that is what always puts me off the unpainted Hasbro test shots.... they could easily have just had the paint stripped off using a substance bought from the store, and then be sold on for $150

If the figure was like the Honkey Tonk pictured then yes being that's the way he was molded for production which is why I have problems with those test shots and ppl need to be weary. I have ones that are 3-4 colors that are clearly not a color used in the production run of the figure . Also the plastic on some occasions will allow the paint to bleed into the actual plastic where you can clearly see it was painted at one time. This is really my rule of thumb for test shots as I can see your argument .

Yup, that is a good point.
The Honky could easily just be a paint stripped standard figure. I wish I had a spare Honky, so I could strip the paint off, and see how similar it looks to the real thing.
I am sure it will be far too close to tell the difference.

I didn't purchase it as a prototype and only paid a couple of pounds for it so wouldn't be disapointed if it wasn't. spare Luger may be going in the acetone next week to check though

I think the Luger and the honky will be first few steps I'll try out. not sure whether nail varnish remover will do it on whether I'll need to invest in some stronger solutions. got a yokozuna in the nail varnish remover i write this

but it is painted silver.....so how is it 'un-painted'? I don't know if its painted so much as smeared with the silver as it was wiped off. Anyone that uses acetone or thinner knows on some more softer plastics/rubbers that it dulls the plastic sometimes and in some cases you could almost " wipe off" details from the figure. So when you wipe off the paint it makes the plastic porous and it will grab a bit of the silver and flesh as it wipes away. Again, just playing the devils advocate . I have acetone , and a few other chemicals we'll see what happens.

I tried just messing around with a honkey tonk man and acetone. It does take the paint off quite easily and I could definately see making a copy testshot, although you would need to do it with some time and tedious work. Some parts like the face and hair are a little hard to get all the paint off..

Some parts like the face and hair are a little hard to get all the paint off.. My experience was similar. The acetone in the nail varnish remover took the paint off but it is a very long process. Took me about half an hour to do one yokozuna leg. Mine was also not very neat as the paint residue seemed to spread more than it actually came off. Honkey may be easier as he has a lot less paint. It was very difficult to get the paint out of the small detailed areas as well. Going to try it with some different chemicals to see whether anything else will strip the paint off easier.
