I know there have been a lot of these lately but I put a great deal of effort into this one as I am bored today( girlfriend not around and I'm putting off shopping for as long as possible).
The Main Event: The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels
This rivalry stems from the JBL/Michaels rivalry, as Shawn tries to win his freedom from JBL at No Way Out in a Street Fight only for JBL to win. JBL doesn't want an " unloyal" employee so he sells Michaels' contract over, which he does so immediately after the match. We don't find out who until later, when Shawn viciously attacks Undertaker during his match. Taker is facing that Hade Vansen dude in a Casket Match and Shawn pops out to help Vansen win( giving the rookie an EPIC victory). It is then revealed that the new owner of Michaels' services is...Ted DiBiase Jr! Clearly he has the money to do so. Ted buys Shawn in order to have him vanquish Taker from the WWE, as he wants to rid the company of the superstar his own father brought in. As the weeks progress, his father, Ted Sr. ends up joining the fight against Undertaker when he shockingly uncovers himself as a druid during one of Taker's usual segments. Finally Kane joins the fight to rid the WWE of Taker, jealous of his own brother's success. Michaels becomes cocky again and Kane plays his bodyguard. Ted Jr/Ted Sr and Shawn/Kane work as independent tandems, spending most of their time together and joining forces in making Taker's life hell before they collide at Wrestlemania.
I am unsure about what to say about possible retirements but I do think Taker's career is winding down and this will probably be his last match, so have him go out with style with a victory and a Bearer appearance to lead him out. If Michaels wants to go too, make it a Double Retirement Match. Or maybe Michaels wants to go and Taker doesn't. Who knows. Double Retirement would be most special for sure.
WWE Championship: Edge(c) vs. Christian
ECW Championship: Matt Hardy(c) vs. Jeff Hardy
At the Royal Rumble, Jeff Hardy defends the WWE Championship against Edge, but Matt Hardy comes out and screws him out of the belt, instead opting to single-handedly give the belt to the man who slept with his girlfriend and made his life miserable only a few years back. Later on, Jeff interferes in the Rumble match and eliminates Matt as they brawl everywhere around the arena. This immediately triggers the huge Hardy feud, as Matt is jealous of his own brother's success and how his title win overshadowed his own. Jeff tries to get revenge by taking Matt's World Title, giving ECW a much-needed boost with an epic matchup that would certainly boost ratings. The whole rivalry is extremely bitter and violent.
Meanwhile Christian returns during the Royal Rumble match and ends up winning the whole damn thing, going on to face his brother for the strap. Unlike the other " brother vs. brother" match on the card, this one is more " friendly" per se, as the two never go full-blown hate on eachother, but continually try to take cheapshots at eachother only to be caught. Basically even though Christian is the face, both of them keep whipping out their heelish actions from the E&C days, as a play on nostalgia.
I put these two matches together for a reason, as they get intertwined at No Way Out. The two teams, E&C and the Hardyz, are forced to team up and face eachother in a Ladder Match, with the winning team/rivalry getting the main event slot at Wrestlemania. The losing team will be lower on the card. If there are no retirements stemming from the Taker/Michaels match, then the winners truly do get the opportunity to unseat eachother in the main event. But if there are 1 or more retirements then WWE will do its usual revisionist history thing and the winning team will just be higher on the card. Anyways the two " teams" put together a great ladder match for old time's sake. Just as it looks like the Hardyz will win, Jeff prevents Matt from climbing and the two brawl around ringside. In true E&C fashion, they sneak in for the belt and the victory and even celebrate like the old E&C, high fiving eachother before Christian downs him with an Unprettier.
Legend vs. Legend Killer: Randy Orton vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Not much to say, except Orton is angry over Austin costing him a match within the past few months. Austin wants one last hurrah in his homestate and wants to beat a prime up-and-coming talent. A true " legend vs. legend killer" matchup that has technically been brewing since 2003.
World Heavyweight Championship, Last Man Standing: John Cena(c) vs. JBL
This is more or less a " throwaway" World Title match because everything above this match is just so damn huge. Instead of going with Batista/Cena, I figured to save the inevitable rematch for later because it would be far overshadowed by the other stuff, and Triple H wouldn't have a real match( see below). Anyways, the story behind this one is that even though JBL finally beat Cena at the Bash last year, he's angry that he has never won a World Title since WM21 and wants revenge by unseating Cena as champion on the grandest stage of them all...the same stage Cena took the belt from him at. JBL is in his former home state and that could play a minor role. JBL also has a good deal of momentum coming off a victory over Michaels at NWO. Anyways, Cena could retain the title and make it a throwaway match or they could surprise us by having JBL win the World Title and finally " excorcise" the demons of his loss at Wrestlemania 21.
The Rematch Four Years in the Making: Batista vs. Triple H
More or less the same story as above, as Triple H hasn't gotten over being made Batista's bitch back in 2005. He has yet to even beat Batista and this is his big chance to finally prove he could beat the man he groomed and mentored.
Giant vs. Giant: Umaga vs. The Big Show
Your typical Wrestlemania giants match, as Umaga has returned at the Rumble and been on a huge roll, even plowing through both Khali( No Way Out) & Henry en route to being here. Big Show's heel turn feel on its ass so he turns face for this match.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. CM Punk vs. Jack Swagger vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Chris Jericho vs. Festus
With either Shelton or Cody taking it. Jericho plays the veteran in this match. Festus plays your usual wild big guy, and could make things interesting.
World Tag Team Championship: John Morrison & The Miz(c) vs. Beth Phoenix & Santino Marella
Because of the Divas Title match, Beth doesn't need to defend her belt but teams up with Santino to form an Intergender team for the Tag Titles. They play up Glamarella as being a major threat to Miz N Morrison's belts and the two sides throw verbal digs at eachother through their internet dirt shows, much like MNM vs. Cryme Tyme went down. An amusing rivalry that gets the Tag Titles a much-needed appearance at Wrestlemania.
Divas Title 4-Way: Michelle McCool vs. Maryse vs. Maria vs. Natalya
Any of them can have the strap by now and this is mostly a filler match. Depending on time constraints this could easily be thrown out, as the usual craptacular 'Mania divas moment can be found below.
