JEFF AND JERRY JARRETT TO START WRESTLING PROMOTIONPosted on Friday, March 29th at 1647 hours by Jordan McLean
Former WWF Intercontinental Champion and WCW World Champion Jeff Jarrett held a press conference today to announce the start of a new wrestling promotion that would be held under the National Wrestling Alliance banner.
Jarrett, who was accompanied by his father, Jerry Jarrett, plus wrestling legend, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and WWF alumni, Eddie Guerrero all spoke about the company for around 60 minutes. Jeff said that NWA:TNA (Total Nonstop Action) will not only be a place "for the superstars of yesterday", but a place for the "superstars of tomorrow" aswell. The show, entitled 'Gauntlet For The Gold', will be live straight out of Huntsville, Alabama and will be available through most pay-per-view outlets.
Jerry Jarrett noted that current NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Dan Severn will not be making an appearance at the debut show. Jerry confirmed the rumours of Severn being stripped of the title belt, and on TNA's debut show we will crown a brand new NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
They announced some names set to appear on the first show after a Q&A. Some of the names set to appear are: Former WCW World Champion, Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, Former WWF Intercontinental Champion, Scott Hall, Eddie Guerrero, UFC Legend Ken Shamrock, Shane Douglas, Konnan, Rey Misterio, Jr., and many, many more.
You can book your tickets now for the show at www.nwatnawrestling.com and at www.ticketmaster.com!

Yay, some competition, can't see you going the same route I did with the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, so it will be awesome to see what you do with it.

This looks as though it's gonna be excellent with Eddie and Rey involved too. This has potential to have some great matches.

12th of June 2002; NWA:TNA Presents PPV #001: 'Gauntlet For The Gold'Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat makes his way down to the ring, with a big smile on his face. He gets in the ring and thanks everyone for ordering the show tonight. Steambot announces the commentators, Mike Tenay and Mick Foley! Foley being commentator is great, and it seems like his falling out with Vince has made him sign with TNA and take a shot at McMahon. The crowd chanted for Foley, and at times it was hard to hear what Steamboat was saying. From what I could make out, he announced that the NWA World Heavyweight Championship will be contested in a gauntlet match. 2 competitors will start the match, and someone new will enter every 2 minutes. In order to be eliminated, you must be thrown over the top rope, and both feet must hit the floor. Spanky defeated. Paul London, The Amazing Red and A.J. Styles. This match was insane, but the crowd were still pumped up by seeing Foley, so that really affected the overall match rating. However the match quality was there. It was filled when a lot of unorthadox moves, and saw Spanky take quite a few sick bumps during it. Every man had the chance to hit their signature move atleast once, but it would be Spanky winning the bout after rolling up The Amazing Red after Red took out London with an enziguri. Afterwards, Spanky celebrated at ringside as Mick Foley and Mike Tenay send us to the back. Backstage we see Goldylocks with Eddie Guerrero who got a good reaction from the crowd. Eddie said it feels great to be apart of the new face of professional wrestling, and he will leave tonight the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Goldylocks sends us back to ringside for more action. Scott Steiner defeated. Air Paris. When we return from a video hyping tonights main event, Scott Steiner comes down to the ring. Air Paris then came down the ramp, trying to get some cheers from the crowd, but failed. Paris went for alot of high flying moves onto Steiner, but Steiner out smarted Paris everytime. Paris went for a diving hurricanrana from the top rope to Steiner, but he was caught in mid-air and Scott powerbombed him. Steiner then locked in the "Steiner Recleiner" to which Paris passed out. Steiner refused to break the hold afterwards. I see a future NWA World Champion in him. Will he win the title tonight? Rey Misterio Jr. and Konnan defeated. Christian York and Joey Matthews. After Foley and Tenay hype tonights main event, Rey Misterio Jr. and Konnan make their entrance. This was a terrefic contest that really could have gone either way. Watching Misterio is like watching the mast in fast-forward. He's just so damn fast. Misterio got the win for himself and Konnan after planting York with a Tornado DDT. York favoured his right ankle when Misterio and Konnan where celebrating. It didn't take long until EMT's where on the case, and helped a limping York to the back. "The Choosen One" Jeff Jarrett was shown backstage shouting at Dory Funk Jr. Jarrett tells Funk that he better watch the main event, as he will become the new NWA World Champion. Funk tells Jarrett he doesn't think so, to which we see Jarrett look at his signature guitar before looking at Funk with a grin. Scott Hall quickly enters the camera range and pushes Jarrett. He tells chico to back off as Jarrett walks away, not looking too pleased. Low-Ki defeated. Jerry Lynn. The hard-hitting Low-Ki took on the veteran, Jerry Lynn here in a fantastic contest. The crowd where really into this from the start until the finish, and they where all totally behind Lynn. However, Low-Ki got the shock win after hitting the "Ghetto Stomp" and grabbing Lynn's pants for the win. Afterwards, Low-Ki quickly made his way to the back as Lynn argued with the referee. We recap the rules for the main event as Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat makes his way to ringside with the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Eddie Guerrero defeated. AJ Styles, Brian Christopher, Christopher Daniels, CM Punk, Don Harris, Jeff Jarrett, Jimmy Yang, Joey Matthews, Ken Shamrock, Konnan, Norman Smiley, Psicosis, Rey Misterio Jr., Ron Harris, Ron Killings, Scott Hall, Shane Douglas, Sonny Siaki and Super Crazy to capture the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. This contest was really, really good and lasted around 40 minutes. The final four men where Eddie Guerrero, Ken Shamrock, Scott Hall and Jeff Jarrett. Hall and Jarrett had went at it the entire match, and Hall had tossed Jarrett through the MIDDLE ROPE to the outside. Jarrett lingered around the outside, for about 5 minutes before waiting on Hall coming over to pull him back into the ring. When Hall grabbed Jarrett by the hair, the guitar was broken over his skull. Double J rolled into the ring and dumped Hall over the top rope before celebrating like crazy. When Hall got to his feet, he distracted Jarrett long enough for Eddie to dropkick him over and out. The bell rung and Shamrock and Eddie locked up for the singles match now. After wrestling back and forth, Eddie managed to take Ken down with a spin kick before climbing to the top and hitting the Frog Splash to win the title. Afterwards, confetti fell as Eddie celebrated.

Oh yeaaaaahs. I loved the original NWATNA logo, and this show just reminded me of it. Hmm, interesting decision to announce Foley as a commentator. The opening four-way match sounded very sweet, I'm happy that Spanky won, but I personally hope that you push Amazing Red. He was one of the hottest talents around this time period. Poor Air Paris, I hope him and AJ Styles feud, reflecting their WCW tag team. Seemed like a darn good tag team match and I aso hope that York and Matthews make it far in NWATNA, hopefully winning the NWA Tag Team titles somewhere down the line. I loved the match between Low-Ki and Lynn, though I hoped that Lynn would of won. The battle royal sounded amazing, so happy that you had Guerrero win the NWA Championship. Where was TAKA Michinoku? I hope he become the 1st X-Division Champion. Could you manage to get a reply in on WWF 2000 thankyaverymuch. You got a great diary here.

Foley being used as commentator is certainly interesting. Great to see Spanky getting the win, but I still hope that AJ gets a good push. Steiner & Misterio both being used is pretty cool, and it's good to see them both getting wins. Eddie as the NWA Champion is awesome, and a great way to end the first show. This could be something good Jord, I will definitely keep reading.

NWA:TNA DEBUT SHOW BUYRATE; INJURY FOR TNA WORKER; & MORE! (www.pwinsider.com)
- NWA:TNA's inaugural show scored a 0.19 buy-rate. It's believed many people are backstage are ecstatic with the buy-rate, and TNA have already began aiming for higher buy-rates. The final attendance was recorded at 2,152.
- It wasn't all good news at the debut show, as one injury was suffered. Christian York came down with an ankle injury during his tag team bout against Rey Misterio Jr. and Konnan. York will be out of action for around 2 months.
- TAKA Michinoku was scheduled to make an appearance at the debut show last night in the opening contest, but TAKA's flight to Nashville was cancelled and he immediantly notified management that he wouldn't be able to appear. The Amazing Red replaced TAKA in the opening contest.

The show seemed pretty realistic as to what TNA was then. I liked how you brought in Steiner for a squash match as there usually was one on the shows. I like how you didn't instantly put over Styles, and will make him earn his way up as he goes along, at least it looks like. Eddie winning the belt is a good choice. Don't think they would ever get that rating though for a PPV. Overall keep up the good work! Please reply to my divas show

19th of June 2002; NWA:TNA Presents PPV #002: 'Viva La Guerrero'Jeff Jarrett's music played and he stormed to the ring, not looking too pleased. He cut a solid promo on Scott Hall, and how he was screwed out of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in last weeks battle royal. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat enters, and tells Jarrett that he has to learn to quit being a bitch. This gets a pop from the crowd, but Jarrett isn't pleased at Steamboat's remarks. Jarrett has a mini-tantrum in the ring, and Steamboat then books Jeff Jarrett vs. Ron Killings for later tonight. Brian Kendrick and Paul London defeated. Jimmy Yang and Kaz HayashiThe team of Brian Kendrick and Paul London work fantastic together, as do Hayashi and Yang, who's gimmick was ninjas, and they played it off well. After isolating Paul London during the match, he made the hot tag to Kendrick who cleared house and hit Kaz with the Sliced Bread #2 for the win. ***1/2Goldylocks is standing by backstage with James Mitchell. After Goldylocks tries to ask James Mitchell requested the interview time, he snatches the microphone off her and pushes her away, out of the camera range. Mitchell then says that he has searched high and low, and he has found his latest creatures, who will take him to the top in TNA. TAKA Michinoku defeated. The Amazing RedIn the first of four qualifying matches to earn the right to fight for the TNA X-Division Championship, TAKA Michinoku took on The Amazing Red in what was one of the best matches I have seen in a long time. After a few false finishes, TAKA was able to make his TNA debut a successful one after avoiding Red's attempted Infrared and then hit the Michinoku Driver for the win. Afterwards, both men shook hands. ***1\4A video played showing us an old bar. There where some men playing pool, and some drinking beer at the bar. Two men walk in, and the bar falls silent. Some people run towards the men but they are taken down, and a bar brawl erupts. Once everyone is down, the men take a drink from their glass of beer and they announce themselves as Chris Harris and James Storm, and they are coming to TNA. When we return to the announce table, Mike Tenay and Don West put over Chris Harris and James Storm before sending us to the back where Goldylocks is standing by with "The Suntan Superman" Ron Killings. We then cut backstage where Ron Killings is shown stretching. Goldylocks asks him about his upcoming match with Jeff Jarrett to which Killings tells her, he promises to leave tonight with a victory over Jeff Jarrett. Scott Steiner defeated. Lash LeRouxSteiner came out, and immediantly began tossing Lash around the ring, and hitting some big moves. When LeRoux avoided a clothesline from Steiner he went for a crossbody but he was caught and dropped onto Steiner's knee. Steiner then locked in the Steiner Recleiner and Lash tapped. Much like last week, Steiner refused to break the hold afterwards. **Jerry Lynn defeated. Jorge EstradaAlthough both Lynn and Estrada are great talents, this match was quite a letdown. After wrestling back and forth for around 6 minutes, Lynn hit the Cradle Piledriver on Estrada and made the cover. But Low-Ki came running to the ring and got on the apron, thus distracting the referee. Jerry got up and took Low-Ki off the apron before hitting a dazed Estrada with another Cradle Piledriver and covering him for the 3 count. Afterwards, Jerry Lynn chased Low-Ki to the back as we cut to the back where Goldylocks is with the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Eddie Guerrero. **1/2Goldylocks interviewed Eddie Guerrero who put over his title win last week. He hypes his upcoming title defense against UFC and wrestling legend, Ken Shamrock. Ken then appears and stares at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. He tells Eddie to shine the belt up real nice, because it's going to be his. The pair staredown as we cut back to ringside. Jeff Jarrett defeated. Ron KillingsA good showing by Jarrett and Killings here. The chemistry was there, as way the match quality. Scott Hall was guest commentator with Tenay and West, which distracted Jarrett a few times, since he was always keeping an eye on Hall. After Killings missed the Corkscrew Scissor Kick from the top rope, Jarrett hit The Stroke for the pinfall victory. Jarrett left for the back, as Hall helped Killings up and then he told him he done a great job. Eddie Guerrero defeated. Ken Shamrock to retain his NWA World Heavyweight ChampionshipWow, this match was absolutely phenomenal and blew the fantastic X-Division contests out of the water. The crowd loved it, and the match quality was fantastic. Shamrock and Eddie gel so well, that I would absolutely love to see these two lock up again. The match lasted around 15 minutes, and featured a ton of false finishes, including Shamrock having the Ankle Lock applied, but Eddie managed to grab the rope. However, Eddie won after hitting the Frog Splash to retain. ****3/4

How pleased am I that this is back. Brian Kendrick and Paul London beating Jimmy Yang and Kaz Hayashi seemed like quite the match, I personally enjoyed it very much. Very nice way to kick off TNA. Hope both these teams have a bright run in TNA. TAKA Michinoku beating Amazing Red is great, though I love both men. I hope that TAKA will get very close to the TNA X-Division Championship. Poor Lash LeRoux. Alright squash for Scott Steiner, I suppose. Jerry Lynn beating Jorge Estrada seemed like a fairly decent match, though I don't know alot about Estrada. Hope Lynn and Michinoku fight in the finals, but are kept away from each other in the semi-finals [well, obviously]. Jeff Jarrett facing Ron Killings is a good match. By the way, you missed the stars off, just pointing that out. Eddie Guerrero retaining the NWA Heavyweight Championship must of been hard for you considering Ken Shamrock was the challenger. Seemed like an awesome match.

London & Kendrick as a team is pretty cool. Taka in TNA is still awesome to be honest. I hope you do something with Steiner, that'd be great. Jarrett-Killings was a great match, especially since it's not the main event. Eddie-Shamrock is a great match, but ****3/4 may be a little generous. Still a good show though overall, keep going with this.
