Faith
The light from the street lamp shimmers down the alleyway illuminating the face of Joe Bishop, clutching a can of beer in his right hand, his back leaned against the wall and his face is peered down towards the ground.
Bishop: “It’s not easy you know, finding out that for years you’ve devoted your life to a higher power, put your faith in a great overlord, who just doesn’t exist…”
Bishop puts the can of beer up to his face.
Bishop: “It’s kinda funny, when I was little I use to pray all the time, just about everything I could think of I asked ‘God’ for, but alas nothing. Of course that was just ‘God’ showing me the right path, showing me that I didn’t need possessions to enjoy life, faith in god would lead me to a happy and prosperous life”
A tear begins to trickle down Joe’s eye, he quickly wipes it away with his right hand, following that up by taking a quick sip of beer, which seems to give him a little bit more energy and restores a bit of life into his face.
Bishop: “But of course I found out that ‘God’ was nothing more than a tale created to give those in ‘Higher Power’ more control. I learned the hard way that ‘God’ is just a figment of some sick twisted person’s imagination, that he is nothing more than a fictional character like Santa or the Easter Bunny”
Bishop takes another sip of beer, his head is still facing down towards the ground but he is now clutching his legs against his chest to provide him with a sense of security.
Bishop: “I was 14 when my sister, Beth, was hit by a car, Christmas Day 2003. I didn’t realize at the time what was happening, But I still prayed to ‘God’, everyday I would pray to the ‘Lord’ asking for him to save my sister”
Joe crushed the now empty can of beer in his hand and threw it down the alley.
Bishop: “They told me she was getting better, they told me that she’d be ok. So I carried on praying, keeping my ‘Faith’. But of course that didn’t last long, and then it happened, my 15th Birthday was the day that I saw my sister die, in front of my eyes I watched the life drain out of my sisters face.”
Joe takes a deep breath, trying desperately to keep himself together.
Bishop: “But what makes it even more difficult to cope with is the Religious Nutcases, they take you away from your sister, and dribble on about how she has ‘Gone to a better place’ and how she is with ‘God’ now.”
Bishop takes a sip from another beer can he had in his bag.
Bishop: “And then you have to sit there and watch your family implode, I sat there for months and saw my parents slip apart, break up. And there’s no ‘God’ to jump in and make everything better, there’s nothing.”
Bishop lifts his head up from his knees; his eyes look dead as he stares straight forward.
Bishop: “But I guess O’Deeves that’s what separates me from you, when you go into your match with me, you are relying on a false prophet, a ‘God’, of sorts, you see just like Christ, God, Allah, all of that s*** your little prophet, doesn’t exist”
Joe smiles.
Bishop: “When I go out into that ring I don’t have anything holding me back, I take matters into my own hands, and on Loaded you’ll learn that there is no ‘Higher Power’ in your corner, it’s just you and me and without the help of a ‘Higher Power’ so to speak, or any of your little Revelation buds, there is nothing, and no one that can help you beat me. It’ll be just you and me and O’Deeves, I’m sorry, but until you learn to take matters into your own hands, theres is always going to be only one winner.”
Joe takes another sip of beer.
Bishop: “Take for instance another of your little buddies The High Horror, he’s a prime example of what I’m talking about, he’s meant to be the best of your little threesome, or however many you’ve got in that sick little relationship of yours. And yet funny enough he’s never won anything, now isn’t that a surprise. Perhaps that’s bad luck, perhaps that’s people getting in his way or perhaps that’s his reliance on ‘God’”
Joe places the beer back down.
Bishop: “Now I’m not saying you’re a bad person because you believe in your little ‘Prophet’, but I pity you Jon, you don’t seem to realise that it’s just not true. But I’m going to teach you a lesson on Loaded, I will show you that the only way to be successful is through hard work, not some make belief ‘God’ giving you anything you want. On Loaded, I will show you the light, I will show you that there is no one to guide you to victory”
Bishop sn*ggers as he pushes up against the wall working his way up to his feet
Bishop: “For you Jon, Loaded, will be … a Revelation”
OOC: If I’m honest I’ve been putting this off pretty much all week, I didn’t really have any idea what I was going to go with but I’ve tried to take on board Alex’s advice, New Layout, Talked about Match and hopefully the character is a little bit more interesting, it’s a bit short and I’m not that happy with it but hopefully it serves its purpose and gives my character somewhere to go from this point. I’ve not been able to give this the time it deserves due to preparation for 5 GCSE exams on Wednesday but once they are done I should be putting a bit more into RP’ing
