I figured I'd share this to the WF bretheren, much like JuiceWinslow shared his successes over the summer of 2011 (seriously, Juice, you're my idol. If it wasn't for you're "How do I get rid of my gut?" thread and everyone who helped spread their enlightenment, I may have never had my baseline knowledge/encouragement to do this. JCF stands out as epic, too).
I've made this thread for three reasons; to show off, to get encouragement for my last 20-30 pounds, and to perhaps inspire someone in the same way I was inspired.
I had to make a change. When I bought a brand new XXL baseball t-shirt (August 2011) and it didn't fit, I realized that I needed to legitimately re-evaluate my life. I had played football my senior year of high school, weighed about 300 and was decently strong (not impressive by any means, I'm back to lifting the same today as I did then, but I still had something). One year of college formed me into a tub of goo. I would legit eat a burger for lunch (and fries), a burger for supper (and fries and a large oreo frozen yogurt), and at night ('late night' third meal for the masses who don't use their swipes for breakfast) would be 2-4 pieces of buffalo chicken pizza. My God that was terrible.
That, combined with the latest summer of haphazard health watching and minimal exercise helped me 'acheive' the morbidly obese status.
At 6'1'' and 330.5 pounds, it was starting to be a bit rediculous.
I first ate a lot less and started doing cardio. That worked for a while, but I hit a few snags around Christmas (damn you, holiday parties with cookies/cakes/chocolates).
When my fall 2012 semester, I decided to get back on track with not only cardio, but also weights (and now I try to eat a lot during lifting days for building muscle... it's going pretty okay (two weeks ago I decided to stop being a wuss and start doing legit back squats and deadlifts). I haven't had candy or soda since February, and I never plan on touching that crap again. My only vice would probably be Domino's pizza. It's REALLY hard fitting in with 'normal' eaters when you're trying to be healthy. It seems like all social gatherings revolve around pizza.
For the last few weeks I've been trying a low carb diet (not even whole grains), and it's working okay. Shoutout to Lorenzo Alcazar who posted in that "Atkins Diet" thread a couple weeks ago. Power Crunch bars have replaced those horribly carb-y and sugary Clif and MetRX bars I was eating. and they taste better. I also started 'ricing' cauliflower, and I made a pizza out of that stuff yesterday. Had it not fallen apart, it would've been a 10/10 project. But anyway,
here we are today. as of this morning, I weighed 219.5. I feel better. The reactions I'm getting in real life are amazing. Every second of gym time I put in feels like it was worth it.
My clothes are still XL overall (but baggy, even smaller fitting stuff like AE), and for bigger, athletic-style shirts, I can fit a large with ease. I even just found a t-shirt from 6th grade that I can fit in. It's scary to think that I was wearing size L and weighed over 200 pounds in grade school. In retrospect, it feels great that I've reversed almost 10 years of bodily abuse.
Oh shoot, bodily comparison pics
330.5 (that's what I weighed the morning after this pic), and 219.5 this morning (and officially eligible for the nonexistant WWE light heavyweight title. Although my billed weight would probably be, like, 235. let's ignore that. give me my glory). I wore that Orioles shirt the other day, and my friend said it was so big it made me look like I shrunk.
I have some fat to lose and a lot of muscle to gain, but the fact that I've more than cleared the US standards for obseity (and the fact that I've lost 111 pounds) is pretty darned INTENSE.
My school semester is almost over. For the summer, I'm gonna have limited equipment to continue, and a gym is near out of the question (nearest one is 25 minutes away. And at over 4 bucks a gallon... lolno).
To perhaps open up for more discussion, what are some of the ways you like to do 'free' excercises (like outdoor intervals/sprints/pushups/etc?) I'm hoping my bench and few dumbbells will last me, and I'm going to try outdoor interval sprints (pole to pole?) and intervals on the punching bag.
Thanks for looking, and special thanks if you actually read this manifesto!
