That's some amazing work! I hope Mattel improves upon their 'face painting' in upcoming releases. Your work shows that it's not the sculpts or scans, but the paint application that makes the real difference between a good and a bad head.

This is what I've been rambling about since we first saw Mattel figs. Scans are great but a few figures need paint adjustments. A+ work awesome job! Thanks for all the great pics.

That looks fantastic. I've been saying for ages that the scans and sculpts are great, let down by rushed/oversimplified paintjobs.

I mixed some reddish brown semi clear washes for the hair and layered up the goatee and sideburns with the same color.
Thanks guys, I think Mattel needs a lot of paint improvements. Jakks had some messed up paint apps to but they really are superior when it came to things like eyes. Mattel give their eyes no pupils! Also take a look at their John Cena's shorts ( Mattel's) if I did not know that John Cena wore Jean shorts the figure would give no indication that those shorts are suposed to be denim. Thats a sculpt/ paint issue though as Jakks had texturing.
I'd have to take a closer look at the Edge scan to see if there's something nice hiding under there but I think that Jakks has them beat on that too
One thing that's killing these mattels though is how they connect the hair. On all the long-haired guys it looks like they are wearing wigs. Mattel could really learn a thing or two from Jakks on that too.
